The method and apparatus for a remote weapon station or incorporated into manually-aimed weapons. The methodology requires use of a muzzle velocity sensor that refines the aiming of the second and subsequent fires or volleys fired from weapon systems. When firing the first volley a weapon uses an estimated velocity and, at firing, the muzzle velocity of a projectile is measured. When firing the second volley a weapon's fire control calculates an aiming point using the measured velocity of the first volley.

Method and apparatus for improving terminal effect of an air-burst projectile

A projectile, that can be tracked by optical means, is fitted with a special tracer incorporated into the projectile's trailing edge. The rearward facing special tracer is incorporated into a metal disk which is crimped to the projectile's metal jacket. The special tracer includes micro-prismatic features that reflect light at the incidence angle. Alternatively, the disk incorporates a fluorescent dye that is responsive to a laser emission. External emitted radiation is reflected or re-emitted from the trailing edge of the projectile, allowing for an external electro-optic tracking device to identify the position of the projectile in flight.

Method and apparatus for improving the aim of a weapon station, firing a point-detonating or an air-burst projectile

A bowfishing arrow slide configured to slidably attach a bowfishing line to an arrow and configured to include a shock absorbing system to enhance the life of the slide is disclosed. The bowfishing arrow slide enables a bowfishing line to be slidably attached to the arrow to keep the arrow attached to a line reel even after being shot and to allow the slide to move from a preshot position at the tip of the arrow to the rear of the arrow during the shot for improved arrow flight. The bowfishing arrow slide may include a shock absorbing system on the bowfishing arrow slide whereby the shock absorbing system is configured to absorb impact forces created when the strikes a slide stop on an arrow shaft when the arrow is shot. The shock absorbing system reduces damage to the slide thereby enhancing the useful life of the slide.

A broadhead having at least one movable blade capable of moving between shooting and retraction positions is disclosed. In at least one embodiment, the broadhead may include a plurality of movable blades. The broadhead may include a blade movement resistance system configured to retain the blades in a shooting position while being shot and enable to blades to rotate forward into a retraction position during retraction into a nonbarb position to enable the broadhead to be easily removed from a target or animal. A nonbarb position is one in which the proximal edge of the blade does not form an acute angle with the broadhead or arrow but faces away from the broadhead body or arrow at an obtuse angle.

A broadhead having one or more movable blades capable of moving between closed and open positions and having a blade shock absorption system configured to absorb forces generated within a movable blade moving from the closed position to the open position is disclosed. The blade shock absorption system cushions the blade as the blade moves to the open position from the closed position, thereby substantially reducing the likelihood of the blade being damaged when the broadhead strikes an animal and the blades are deployed form the closed position into the open position.

A system for correcting the aim of a weapon which is operative to launch a projectile from a barrel on a ballistic path toward a target. A rear surface of the projectile is coated with a fluorescent dye that re-emits radiation when excited by laser radiation. The system includes a source of laser radiation (strobe) pulses that form a cone of light intersecting the ballistic path of the projectile. The strobe pulses are emitted at predetermined times (T, T, T, . . . Tn) following firing of the projectile (at time T). An optical detector receives the radiation re-emitted by a the fluorescent dye at the rear of the projectile at times (T, T, T, . . . Tnz) producing measurable location signals allowing the system to measure the vertical and lateral positions of the projectile at said times, where 'z' is a re-emission delay and T, T, T, . . . Tnz are the respective times T, T, T, . . . Tn each delayed by amount z.

A bowfishing nock adapter providing a robust stop supporting element configured to support a bowfishing line stop and to support a nock is disclosed. The bowfishing nock adapter may be formed from an elongated adapter body configured to be attached to a distal end of an arrow at a proximal end of the elongated adapter body. The elongated adapter body may include an arrow retention system that, once crimped, prevents the bowfishing nock adapter from being removed from an arrow. The bowfishing nock adapter includes a stop supporting element configured to support a bowfishing line stop such that the bowfishing line stop is removable.

A fish harvesting head is disclosed having one or more barb arms protruding from barb receiving slots in a harvesting body, wherein one or more barb arms includes one or more gripper arms extending from at least one barb arm nonorthogonal and nonparallel with the barb arm to prevent the fish harvesting head from inadvertently being pulled free from a target. The gripper arm may extend at a compound angle from a side surface of the barb arm. The gripper arm may also be nonlinear such that the gripper arm mates with an outer surface of the fish harvesting head when the barb arm is in a closed position against the harvesting body. In such a position, the gripper arm assists the barb arm in staying in a closed position while the fish harvesting head is driven into a target, such as, but not limited to a fish.

A fish harvesting head is disclosed having one or more barb arms protruding from barb receiving slots in a harvesting body and having an arm retraction system configured to withdraw the barb arms toward the harvesting body for removal of the fish harvesting head from a body. The arm retraction system is configured to allow the barb arms to move between a shooting barb position and a fish retaining barb position. The arm retraction system may also be activated to retain the barb arms against the harvesting body of the fish harvesting head in a fish harvesting head release position, which enables the fish harvesting head to be easily pulled back through a body, such as a fish, after it has been shot. The barb arms may be held in the fish harvesting head release position while all components, including a pierce tip, remain attached to the fish harvesting head.

A training ammunition cartridge comprises a projectile and a cartridge case with a pyrotechnic propellant. The projectile has a projectile body with at least one compartment therein forming a void and containing a material that transitions from a solid to a liquid after set-back and after exiting from a barrel of a gun. The void is of such configuration as to cause the liquid material therein to induce forces and moments that, after a period of stable ballistic flight, destabilize the projectile and shorten its flight. Alternatively, the projectile void contains a solid mass that is released to shift its position after set-back and after the projectile exits from the barrel of the gun, wherein the void is of such configuration as to cause the mass, upon shifting, to induce forces and moments that, after a period of stable ballistic flight, destabilize the projectile and shorten its flight.

Kits or sub-systems that include sensors to measure a projectile's condition at muzzle exit. The kits or sub-systems are coupled to ballistic calculators or fire control systems that calculate aiming and programming solutions to improve shot placement, reduced dispersion and improve terminal performance. Where airburst munitions are used, the projectile is programmed when reaching a programming station beyond the barrel and the projectile is programmed with a solution that adjusts the burst location based on the measured muzzle velocity. Sub-systems, processes and sub-routines optimize 'post-shot' programming using certain non-linear methods that are incorporated into fire control systems and ballistic calculators. These non-linear sub-routines are useful in establishing the optimum terminal effect of such airburst projectiles. The sub-systems are used separately or are incorporated into the weapons, to reduce dispersion and improve the terminal effects of the projectiles.

Systems to measure yaw, spin and muzzle velocity of projectiles, improve fire control fidelity, and reduce shot-to-shot dispersion in both conventional and airbursting programmable projectiles

Systems to measure muzzle exit conditions of for ammunition improve fire control solutions and reduce shot-to-shot dispersion in both conventional and air-burst programmable ammunition. A first system measures muzzle velocity and, when firing 'post-shot' programmable ammunition, the system calculates a unique time-of-flight optimized for the actual muzzle velocity and transmits the time to detonate signal by using either optically or radio-frequency signals that represent an optimized time of burst to a projectile. A second system measures muzzle velocity coupled to a ballistic calculator and, when used with ammunition having ferrous characteristics, the force is applied to exiting ammunition to slow or increase the muzzle velocity to a consistent, standardized target velocity. The systems are separately or in combination incorporated into kits that readily improve the performance of weapon systems.
