A system, in a vehicle consist configured for dual fuel operation and comprising at least one fuel car operably connectable to at least one powered vehicle via a fuel distribution path, includes an energy management processing unit. The energy management processing unit is configured to obtain a first cost of a first fuel, obtain a second cost of a second fuel, and determine a proportional ratio of the first fuel and the second fuel for each of plural power settings available for use during performance of a mission along a route. The energy management processing unit is also configured to determine a trip plan specifying power settings for corresponding plural sections of the route to perform the mission using the first cost, the second cost, and the proportional ratio for the power settings to optimize a total combined cost of fuel used during performance of the mission.

System and method for vehicle operation

Various methods and systems are provided for a multi-fuel capable engine. The system includes a liquid fuel system to deliver liquid fuel to an engine, a gaseous fuel system to deliver gaseous fuel to the engine, and a control system. The control system can control and test the liquid and gaseous fuel systems.

Systems for a multi-fuel capable engine

An engine system includes a gearbox assembly that includes a housing having plural interconnected gears disposed between an engine side of the housing and an alternator side of the housing, a rotatable engine coupler connected with the engine side of the housing, the engine coupler configured to engage a rotatable shaft of an engine, and a rotatable alternator coupler connected with the alternator side of the housing, the alternator coupler configured to engage a rotor of a first alternator. The housing is configured to be positioned between the engine and the first alternator. The engine coupler is configured to engage the engine that is resiliently mounted in the powered system and the alternator coupler is configured to engage the first alternator that is rigidly mounted in the powered system to transfer rotation of the shaft of the engine to rotation of the rotor of the first alternator.

Gearbox assembly

Various methods and systems are provided for a multi-fuel capable engine. The system includes a liquid fuel system to deliver liquid fuel to an engine, a gaseous fuel system to deliver gaseous fuel to the engine, and a control system. The control system, during a gaseous fuel system test mode, controls the liquid fuel system and the gaseous fuel system to deliver the liquid fuel and the gaseous fuel to the engine over a range of engine operating points, and indicate degradation of the gaseous fuel system based on engine output at each of the engine operating points.

Vehicle walkway cover

A method involves comparing a determined operating parameter of an engine, with a predefined operating parameter. The method further involves controlling a fuel source and an ignition source of the engine so as to operate at least one engine cylinder in a skip fire mode for at least one cycle of a crank shaft when the determined operating parameter is greater than the predefined operating parameter. The controlling involves transitioning the fuel source from a normal mode to the skip fire mode for the at least one cycle of the crank shaft either before transitioning the ignition source from the normal mode to the skip fire mode or when the ignition source is operated in the normal mode.

System and method for controlling operation of an engine

Various methods and systems are provided for initiating and executing a fuel routine for reducing a pressure of gaseous fuel in a gaseous fuel system for a vehicle. In one embodiment, a control system for a vehicle comprises a controller operable to: determine a required pressure relief event is needed for a fuel tank on a fuel tender coupled to a first vehicle; and communicate a request to reduce a pressure of a gaseous component disposed within the fuel tank or adjust operation of a first engine on board the first vehicle to consume the gaseous component.

Method and systems for storing fuel for reduced usage

A vehicle system comprises an interface assembly and a controller both on board a first rail vehicle. The interface assembly comprises one or more mechanical couplers, fuel couplers, fluid couplers, and electrical connectors, to detachably couple the first rail vehicle to a separate, adjacent fuel tender vehicle, for the transfer of one or more of fuel (e.g., compressed natural gas) from the fuel tender vehicle to the first rail vehicle, heated fluid from the first rail vehicle to the fuel tender vehicle (e.g., for regasification of liquid natural gas stored in the fuel tender vehicle to the compressed natural gas), or electrical power and/or control signals between the first rail vehicle and the fuel tender vehicle. The controller is configured to at least partially control operations of the first rail vehicle in relation to interfacing with the fuel tender vehicle for fuel transfer, heated fluid transfer, etc.

Vehicle system and method

Various methods and systems are provided for modifying a fuel volume of a fuel container based on fuel consumption. In one embodiment, a method comprises storing an initial fuel volume measurement for a fuel container of a first rail vehicle and modifying the initial fuel volume measurement based on fuel consumption of an engine of a second rail vehicle to determine a modified fuel volume.

Method and systems for estimating a fuel level of a liquid natural gas storage container

Various methods and systems are provided for initiating and executing a fuel routine for a vehicle. In one embodiment, a method comprises sending from a controller of a vehicle a fuel request to a fuel tender to reduce a pressure of gaseous fuel on the fuel tender and adjusting one or more vehicle operating parameters to allow consumption of the gaseous fuel at an engine of the vehicle when the pressure of the gaseous fuel is below a threshold supply pressure.
