A method of assessing inter-device communication pairing in a surgical setting, may include transmitting, by a first intelligent medical device, wireless communication data within the surgical setting, receiving, by a second intelligent medical device, the wireless communication data from the first intelligent medical device, determining, by the second intelligent medical device, communication pairing data indicative of an inter-device communication pairing of the second intelligent medical device with the first intelligent medical device, transmitting, by the second intelligent medical device, the communication pairing data to a modular control tower, and displaying, by the modular control tower on a display device, an augmented reality display comprising one or more virtual objects indicative of the inter-device communication pairing. An interactive surgical system may include multiple intelligent medical devices and displays which can form communication pairs in this manner.

A device, such as a computing device or a surgical device, may receive surgical operation data associated with a surgical operation. Based on the surgical operation data, a device may identify a surgical device to be used for a surgical operation and/or one or more surgical steps associated with a surgical operation. Based on the identified surgical device, the one or more surgical steps, and/or the surgical operation data, a device may determine an allowable operation range controlling a surgical device for a surgical procedure. A device may receive an adjustment input configuration to control a surgical device for a surgical step. A device may determine whether the adjustment input configuration is outside of the determined allowable operation range. Based on a determination that the adjustment input configuration is outside of the determined allowable operation range, a device may block the adjustment input configuration to control a surgical device.

A method for treating tissue using a surgical instrument including at least one electrode and a staple cartridge is disclosed. The method includes causing the at least one electrode to deliver a therapeutic energy to the tissue in a first phase of a surgical treatment by the surgical instrument, deploying staples from the staple cartridge into the tissue in a second phase of the surgical treatment, monitoring a first tissue property in the first phase of the surgical treatment, switching from the first phase to the second phase if at least one of two conditions is met, setting a parameter of the second phase of the surgical treatment based on at least one measurement of the first tissue property determined in the first phase of the surgical treatment, and monitoring a second tissue property, different from the first tissue property, in the second phase of the surgical treatment.

A method of operating a surgical instrument includes clamping tissue with a surgical instrument end effector and actuating the end effector to drive staples into the clamped tissue, including a first longitudinal row having at least one first formed staple with a first formed shape in which the first legs are aligned laterally with each other and with the first crown; a second longitudinal row having at least one second formed staple with a second formed shape in which each second leg is skewed laterally away from the second crown at a first angle; and a third longitudinal row of third formed staples having at least one third formed staple with a third formed shape in which each third leg is skewed laterally away from the third crown at a second angle.

A surgical system is configured to deploy staples from a staple cartridge reload into tissue. The surgical system includes a first sensor configured to measure a first parameter indicative of a force to form the staples, and a second sensor configured to measure a second parameter indicative of a position of a sled along a staple-forming distance. The system further includes a control circuit communicatively connected to a motor, the first sensor, and the second sensor, wherein the control circuit is configured to: receive a first signal from the first sensor indicative of the first parameter; receive a second signal from the second sensor indicative of the second parameter; and detect staple malformation of the staples based on the first signal and the second signals.

A surgical system is disclosed including an imaging device, a display, and a control system operably coupled to the imaging device and the display. The display is configured to show a livestream of a surgical field of a surgical procedure. The livestream is captured by the imaging device. The control system is configured to overlay, on the livestream, a first amount of information associated with the surgical procedure, detect an event configured to cause the first amount of information being overlaid to increase to a second amount of information being overlaid, compare the second amount of information to a distraction threshold, adjust the second amount of information to a third amount of information based on the comparison, and overlay, on the livestream, the third amount of information based on the second amount of information being adjusted. The third amount of information is less than the distraction threshold.

Systems and methods for controlling surgical data overlay

A surgical system for use in a surgical procedure to perform sequential firings of staple cartridges is disclosed. A control circuit is to monitor a parameter indicative of a tissue response associated with a first firing, assess the tissue response based on the parameter, and adjust an operational parameter associated with a second firing based on the tissue response during the first firing.
