A stapling assembly for a surgical instrument includes a body extending along a longitudinal axis and having an upper deck, a plurality of pockets extending through the upper deck for receiving respective staples and arranged in at least two longitudinal rows, a plurality of staple drivers, and a staple driver actuator. The stapling assembly also includes a plurality of pocket extenders extending upwardly from the upper deck. Each pocket extender has a respective top surface. The stapling assembly further includes at least one upwardly-facing surface configured to contact an adhesive of an adjunct for securing the adjunct to the stapling assembly. The at least one upwardly-facing surface is disposed at least partially between at least a portion of the upper deck and the top surfaces of the plurality of pocket extenders, and spans laterally at least partially across at least two longitudinal rows of the plurality of pockets.

Surgical stapler cartridge having raised surface to promote buttress adhesion

A loading unit for use with a surgical stapling instrument is disclosed. The loading unit comprises a shaft and an end effector extending from the shaft. The end effector comprises a first jaw that comprising an anvil, and a second jaw. At least one of the first jaw and the second jaw is movable relative to the other to grasp tissue. The second jaw comprises an elongated channel comprising retaining features, and a staple cartridge insertable into the elongated channel for assembly therewith. The staple cartridge comprises a cartridge pan, and a sled translatable relative to the cartridge pan from a first position toward a second position. The retaining features are configured to resist a movement by the sled beyond the first position up to a predetermined force.

The staple cartridge assembly comprises a plurality of staples, a plurality of staple drivers, and a cartridge body. The cartridge body comprises a deck surface configured to support patient tissue, a longitudinal slot defined in the cartridge body, a plurality of staple cavities, and a longitudinal wall extending vertically below the deck surface. The longitudinal wall comprises a first zone comprising a first wall height and a second zone comprising a second wall height. The staple cartridge assembly further comprises a sled movable longitudinally through the cartridge body, wherein the sled is sized and configured resist deflection of the cartridge body during the firing stroke within the second zone.

An electrosurgical instrument comprising an end effector is disclosed. The end effector comprises a first jaw and a second jaw. The first jaw comprises a first electrode. The end effector is movable from an open configuration to a closed configuration to grasp tissue. The second jaw comprises a second electrode configured to deliver a first monopolar energy to the tissue, a third electrode, and a conductive circuit selectively transitionable between a connected configuration with the third electrode and a disconnected configuration with the third electrode. In the connected configuration, the third electrode is configured to cooperate with the first electrode to deliver bipolar energy to the tissue. The conductive circuit defines a return path for the bipolar energy. In the disconnected configuration, the first electrode is configured to deliver a second monopolar energy to the tissue.

A first projection surrounds the first staple cavity, a second projection surrounds the second staple cavity, and a pair of third projections surrounds first and second portions of the third staple cavity, respectively. The projections define a localized tissue-facing surface area. A localized valley is defined on the deck between the projections. The area of the localized valley area is greater than the localized tissue-facing area.

A surgical stapler kit includes a surgical stapler having a body, a shaft, and an end effector. The kit includes a first staple cartridge having a first cartridge body and a first sled, and a second staple cartridge having a second cartridge body and a second sled. The loop may move between a contracted and expanded configuration. The loop is magnetically biased toward the contracted configuration by a magnetic bias of the beads. The first external contact surface and the second external contact surface engage each other as the loop transitions into the contracted configuration to drive the first bead and the second bead into a predetermined orientation relative to each other about the linking assembly in the contracted configuration.

A processor receives the first and second data feeds and combines the first and second data feeds to generate the augmented overlay.
