A method for reducing electromagnetic emissions in an electronic device having a multiple micro-controllers includes identifying the number of micro-controllers installed in the electronic device. An operating frequency range of the electronic device is determined based on the operating frequency range of each micro-controller. A frequency spacing for each micro-controller within the operating frequency range of the electronic device is then calculated, and an operating frequency is assigned to each micro-controller. The operating frequency of each micro-controller is separated from the operating frequency of each other micro-controller by at least the frequency spacing. Then, the operating frequency of each micro-controller is set at the assigned operating frequency.

What is disclosed is a novel system and method for determining real-time performance in a sub-assembly device that is driven by a dc motor. In one example embodiment, an electric motor is energized such that a sub-assembly driven by the motor achieves a target operating speed. Pulse width modulation data is captured and plotted along a time axis. A time duration when the sub-assembly device ended a startup operation and achieved a steady state operation is determined. A portion of the plotted data is then compared to an ideal plot defined for that sub-assembly device. Based on the result of that comparison, a determination is made whether the sub-assembly device is performing within accepted operational parameters. A maintenance operation is signaled to be performed in response to the determined sub-assembly operational performance. The data is stored in a historical database from which a preventative maintenance schedule can be derived.

A fuser system of a xerographic device has a fuser member and a pressure member in which the pressure member is made to exert pressure upon the fuser member so as to form a nip. A drive system drives the fusing member and/or pressure member. A sensor monitors torque of the drive system, and a processor in communication with the sensor receives torque data from the sensor. The processor determines if the torque exceeds a predetermined value, wherein the drive system holds the fuser member and the pressure member in a partially loaded state when the torque exceeds the predetermined value.

An imaging system includes a plurality of imaging engines each comprising a photoreceptor belt having a belt seam. A sensor determines a relative position of a first photoreceptor belt of a first one of the imaging engines relative to a second photoreceptor belt seam of a second one of the imaging engines. A controller controls a motor speed of one or more motors driving the photoreceptor belts, wherein an output of the sensor comprises a basis for adjustment of the motor by the controller for relative synchronizing of the first and second belts to avoid skipping pitches in one of the imaging engines due to relative belt seam positions.

The fluid ejector carriage traverses across a recording medium for placing swaths of fluid droplets upon the recording medium. A biasing structure urges the fluid ejector frame to a first position to obtain highly accurate and repeatable placement of fluid droplets when the fluid ejector frame is in the first position. A second position of the fluid ejector frame is achieved by energizing a position actuator to move the fluid ejector frame from the first position to the second position to obtain highly accurate and repeatable placement of fluid droplets when the fluid ejector frame is in the second position. The recording medium is advanced separately upon completing a set of at least one swath of fluid droplets.

A rotary encoder error compensation system for use in a marking device with a rotary encoder includes an error correction logic circuit and an error correction table linked to the error correction logic circuit. The rotary encoder is configured to generate an encoder signal indicating a detected position of a rotating element and has a known rotary encoder error. The error correction logic circuit receives the encoder signal from the rotary encoder. The error correction table includes normalized error correction values. The error correction logic circuit accesses the error correction table based on the detected position of the rotating element and the known rotary encoder error and obtains one of the normalized error correction values corresponding to the detected position of the rotating element and the known rotary encoder error.

Rotary encoder error compensation system and method for photoreceptor surface motion sensing and control

A system and method electronically determines an edge of a copy substrate to be printed on. A copy substrate is inserted between a linear light source array and a linear sensor array and a light segment of the linear light source array is illuminated. An edge location of a shadow created by the copy substrate intersecting a light path between the illuminated light segment and the linear sensor array is measured, and a location of the edge of the copy substrate is calculated based on the measured shadow location. A second light segment of the linear light source on an opposite side of an expected copy substrate edge position of the light segment can also be illuminated, and a second edge location of a shadow created by the copy substrate intersecting a light path between the illuminated second light segment and the linear sensor array can be measured wherein this second measurement can be used with the first to calculate a location of the edge of the copy substrate. Alternatively, the calculated location can be used to determine a light segment of the linear light source which corresponds to the calculated location. This determined light source is illuminated and the shadow measured. The new measurement is used to calculate the edge of the copy substrate.

The printing apparatus according to the present invention includes a system for pre-warning of impending shutdown due to slippage of sheets within the printing apparatus sheet transport system. The system includes a plurality of sensors positioned along a sheet transport path for sensing sheets moving along the sheet transport path and a controller for determining an amount and location of slip within the sheet transport path by comparing outputs of the plurality of sensors. Once the location of the slip has been determined, automatic correction may be performed by the printing apparatus or manual correction may be performed by a service representative.

A sensor detects the presence of opaque and transparent copy substrates in a substrate transporting path and includes an LED disposed near the transporting path for projecting light toward a reflector on the opposite side of the media transport path and a phototransistor located relative to the LED and reflector to receive light reflected from the reflector which is periodically interrupted by substrates within the transporting path to provide an output proportional to the light received from the LED via the reflector. The operating range of the phototransistor has a linear portion and a saturated portion. A control, electrically connected to the sensor, adjusts the phototransistor to maintain the output signal in the linear portion of the operating range. The sensor is tilted at an angle with respect to the horizontal of a copy substrate to be able to detect transparencies.

A copier or printer connecting with a standard commercial electrical power line source and having a limited peak power consumption can still provide an electrically powered sheet stapling system by driving the stapler from an electrical storage battery power supply, the batteries of which are electrically connecting with an integral low voltage electrical power supply of the reproduction apparatus only for low power slow recharging. The stapler is operable for stapling sheets, powered solely by the storage batteries, even when the copier or printer, including its integral low voltage electrical power supply, is completely turned off, i.e., fully disconnected from the power line source. This stapler can also be operated when the reproduction machine is fully operating at its peak power consumption, including the operation of other, internal, stapling, because this stapler's operation does not increase that peak power consumption. Preferably this stapler and its battery power supply is part of an easily unplugable modular unit removably mountable on top of the machine for convenience stapling. Additionally, the stapler may be automatically prevented from further attempted stapling and thus further battery discharge when there is insufficient remaining battery power for fully effective stapling.
