A combined mass airflow sensor and hydrocarbon trap is provided for absorbing evaporative hydrocarbon emissions from an air intake duct of an internal combustion engine. The combined mass airflow sensor and hydrocarbon trap comprises a duct that supports a hydrocarbon absorbing sheet in an unfolded configuration within a housing. The duct communicates an airstream from an air filter to the air intake duct during operation of the internal combustion engine. An opening in the housing receives a mass airflow sensor into the duct, such that the mass airflow sensor is disposed within the airstream. Guide vanes extending across the duct reduce air turbulence within the airstream passing by the mass airflow sensor. Ports disposed along the duct allow the evaporative hydrocarbon emissions to be drawn into the interior and arrested by the hydrocarbon absorbing sheet when the internal combustion engine is not operating.

A sound attenuating engine exhaust system and methods are provided for directing exhaust gases away from an internal combustion engine of a vehicle and attenuating undesirable exhaust sounds during engine operation. The sound attenuating engine exhaust system comprises an exhaust inlet configured to receive exhaust gases from the internal combustion engine. A first resonator coupled with the exhaust inlet is configured to dampen at least one frequency of exhaust sound waves by way of destructive wave interference. The first resonator includes an exhaust outlet for directing the exhaust gases out of the first resonator. A second resonator is coupled with the first resonator and configured to dampen one or more frequencies of exhaust sound waves by way of a combination of destructive wave interference and Helmholtz resonance. Hangers facilitate attaching the sound attenuating engine exhaust system to an undercarriage of the vehicle.

An apparatus and method are provided for a drone elimination muffler to attenuate drone exhibited by engine exhaust systems. The drone elimination muffler comprises a hollow canister having a length and a diameter, and a tuned port comprising a first end connected to the canister and a second end connected to the exhaust system. The canister operates in concert with the tuned port as a dampener configured to substantially attenuate exhaust drone, or resonance, at one or more frequencies of engine operation. A valve is configured to switch the drone elimination muffler between a closed state in which the exhaust system operates without acoustic influence due to the drone elimination muffler, and an open state in which the drone elimination muffler directly influences the acoustic properties of the exhaust system.

An apparatus and a method are provided for an air box with an integrated air filter to communicate air flow from an exterior of the air filter to an air intake of an automobile engine. The air filter comprises a filter material that surrounds at least a portion of an interior cavity of the air filter. An end cap is affixed to a distal end of the filter material, and a wire support extends along at least a portion of the exterior surface of the filter material. The air box comprises a housing portion and a mount portion. The housing portion is configured to direct air drawn through the filter material into the interior cavity of the air filter and then into the air intake of the automobile engine. The mount portion is configured to support the air box and the air filter once installed within an automobile engine bay.
