A system and a method are provided for managing events in a smart grid. The method is implemented in a computer infrastructure having computer executable code tangibly embodied on a computer readable storage medium having programming instructions operable to: receive a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) notify message comprising a monitored state of at least one electrical device, from a smart meter; send a SIP publish message comprising the monitored state of the at least one electrical device, to at least one client device for management of the at least one electrical device; and determine and send a rule comprising at least one action to take in response to the monitored state of the at least one electrical device, to the smart meter.

Subscriber-driven system for managing events in an electrical grid

Models of a distribution network grid are automatically updated in response to real-time location data of uniquely identified temporary devices. Current geographical coordinates are determined within a distance tolerance that is selected as a function of a type of device indicated by the identity indicia. The geographical information system model is updated with a location of a unique identity of the device at the determined current geographical coordinates within the distance tolerance if unique identity of the device not already present within the geographical information system model, or if it is present and a displacement distance from the determined current geographical coordinates of the temporary device to existing geographic coordinates that are stored in the geographical information system model in association with the unique device identity exceeds a specified distance margin.

An approach for receiving a notification message including a state of an electrical component on an electrical grid, and determining, by a computing system, a command message including at least one action to take in response to the state of the electrical component, is described. A system and a method are provided for optimizing and managing a load in an electrical grid. The method includes receiving an event notification associated with a mobile device requiring a charge and determining charging station information of at least one charging station in an electrical grid based on the event notification, the at least one charging station operable to charge the mobile device. The charging station information of the at least one charging station is sent to a user of the mobile device.
