An image system dynamically updates drive sequences in an image system. Drive sequences are image display settings or display driving characteristics with which a display is operated. The image system may determine the drive sequence at least partially based on input from one or more sensors. For example, the image system may include sensors such as an inertial measurement unit, a light sensor, a camera, a temperature sensor, or other sensors from which sensor data may be collected. The image system may analyze the sensor data to calculate drive sequence settings or to select a drive sequence from a number of predetermined drive sequences. Displaying image content on a display includes providing the display with image data and includes operating the display with various drive sequences.

Embodiments of the invention include a system and method to generate a quality rating prediction, such as MOS, of a video under test without using a second video as a reference. Instead of using a reference video, embodiments of the invention generate a pseudo reference video from measuring local impairments of the video under test. The local impairments are then accumulated to create a difference image. The difference image is then subtracted from the video under test to create the pseudo reference, to which the video under test is compared to generate the quality prediction rating. In some embodiments the local impairments may be measured by separating high frequency noise from the video under test from the video itself. Once separated, the noise is then measured and bandwidth compensated to generate the measured local impairments.

Embodiments of the invention include a system and methods for measuring disparity and mismatch of stereoscopic images of three-dimensional video, which may indicate a level of discomfort on the part of the viewer. Measuring these parameters may also be used to give an indication that certain processes have or have not adversely effected perceived depth (i.e. through conversion from disparity to depth given a display size and viewing distance), verify camera setup or 2-dimension to 3-dimension synthesizing processes. Generating the indications and other data about the stereoscopic images uses techniques that allow processing with much less computing resources than was possible in previous systems.

Embodiments of the invention include a system for providing a natural language objective assessment of relative color quality between a reference and a source image. The system may include a color converter that receives a difference measurement between the reference image and source image and determines a color attribute change based on the difference measurement. The color attributes may include hue shift, saturation changes, and color variation, for instance. Additionally, a magnitude index facility determines a magnitude of the determined color attribute change. Further, a natural language selector maps the color attribute change and the magnitude of the change to natural language and generates a report of the color attribute change and the magnitude of the color attribute change. The output can then be communicated to a user in either text or audio form, or in both text and audio forms.

A method for viewing a simulated light output generated for a first display on a second display includes a variety of steps. First, the simulated light output is generated based on qualities of the first display. Next, the simulated light output is compensated for color differences, temporal differences, luminance differences including gamma difference, and differences in viewing environment between the first and the second display, in real-time. Then, the simulated light output that has been compensated for the differences and for viewing environment is output for the second display.

A method of generating a predictive picture quality rating makes a disparity measurement of a three-dimensional image by comparing left and right sub-components of the three-dimensional image. Then the left and right sub-components of the three-dimensional image are combined (fused) into a two-dimensional image, using data from the disparity measurement for the combination. A predictive quality measurement is then generated based on the two-dimensional image, and further including quality information about the comparison of the original three-dimensional image.

Disclosed is a processor for predicting perceptual differences between colors recalled from memory and directly viewed colors in a tested video. The processor includes a memory effects processor structured to generate compensation factors for distortions of color due to memory effects and apply the compensation factors to data from the reference video or data from the tested video. The compensation factors may include factors for changes in saturation over time, changes in hue angle, changes in uncertainty, and a categorization factor that reflects a trend in shifts and towards cardinal color centroids over time in memory.

Method of predicting perceptual differences between memory and directly viewed colors in video

Embodiments of the invention include systems and methods for automatically detecting persons and/or other objects in a video signal. Automatic color compensation is applied to the video signal based on measured color of a reference area of the video signal. Generally the reference area is an area of the video signal that does not change often over time. The color compensated video signal is then analyzed for the appearance of objects and persons. In some instances the persons are identified using facial or other type of recognition. Counters or other trackers may provide real-time information, such as how many people are currently on a particular floor of a building.
