An anisotropic composite material assembly comprising a first layer with a tensile modulus different from its compressive modulus and that exhibits variable modulus behavior. The first layer elastically buckle under compressions. A second layer has a tensile modulus substantially the same as its compressive modulus. The first and second layers are joined together, and the assembly is bendable in a first direction with an outer surface of the first layer being in compression and the assembly has a first bending stiffness during bending in the first direction. The assembly is bendable in a second direction opposite the first direction with the outer surface of the first layer being in tension, and the assembly has a second bending stiffness greater than the first bending stiffness during bending in the second direction.

Plant supplement delivery assemblies are provided that can include an insert having collapsible insert sidewalls complimentary to the exterior sidewalls of the delivery assembly housing, the collapsible insert sidewalls defining at least a portion of a container configured to house a plant supplement. A butt end of the insert can be configured to operably engage a biased member. Methods for providing plant supplements are also provided. The methods can include operably engaging a biased member with a butt end of a container to collapse sidewalls of the container and provide plant supplement from the container through a stem into a plant. Methods for recycling components of a plant supplement delivery assembly are also provided. The methods can include, after providing plant supplements from an insert of a plant supplement delivery assembly, removing the spent insert from the assembly and replacing the spent insert with a sealed insert.

Plant supplement delivery assemblies, and methods for delivering plant supplements

An axially stretchable fiber-reinforced composite material, comprising an elastically deformable matrix having a low modulus of elasticity, and a fabric core encapsulated by the matrix. The core comprises first fibers interlaced with second fibers, with the first fibers being in a non-parallel orientation relative to the material's longitudinal axis, and the second fibers are non-parallel relative to the first fibers when the composite material is in a retracted position. The composite material is stretchable between the retracted and extended positions. The fibers have a high modulus of elasticity. The composite material has a non-linear modulus relative to elongation of the composite material between the retraced and extended positions. Movement of the material toward the extended position causes the first and second fibers to rotate relative to each other and in a direction toward alignment with the longitudinal axis, and the matrix material biases the composite material toward the retracted position.

Provided are methods for preparing fabric laminated with polymer film(s) and the laminated fabric prepared according to the methods disclosed herein. The laminated fabric has flexibility similar to fabric not laminated with polymer films and improved adhesion and tensile strength.

Composite materials with binder-enhanced properties and method of production thereof

The present invention is a method and apparatus for molding plastic parts and placing and orienting reinforcing fibers within structurally thin sections. More specifically, the method of the present invention is a molding technique wherein positive displacement is applied to incremental sections of a charge (plastic mixed with reinforcing fibers), thereby sequentially forming the desired part and placing reinforcing fibers within structurally thin sections. The apparatus of the invention is a moveable ram that may be tapered and that is in contact with the charge during forming.

The internal structure shapes and internally supports the storage tank. The pressure vessel storage tank has a conformability of about 0.8 to about 1.0. The internal structure can be, but is not limited to, a Schwarz-P structure, an egg-crate shaped structure, or carbon fiber ligament structure.

In one preferred configuration, the storage system stores a slurry containing a hydride storage material in a carrier fluid at a first concentration of hydride solids. The slurry reactor receives the slurry containing a second concentration of the hydride storage material and releases hydrogen as a fuel to hydrogen-power devices and vehicles.

Composite materials and method of making

A feedstock composition and a method of forming metal articles using powder metallurgy techniques comprise mixing metal powders and a novel aromatic binder system. The composition of the novel feedstock comprises an aromatic binder system and a metal powder. The aromatic binder system comprises an aromatic species and can further comprise lubricants, surfactants, and polymers as additives. The metal powder comprises elemental metals, metal compounds, and metal alloys, particularly for highly-reactive metals. The method of forming metal articles comprises the steps of providing and mixing the metal powder and the aromatic binder system to produce a novel feedstock. The method further comprises processing the novel feedstock into a metal article using a powder metallurgy forming technique. Metal articles formed using the present invention have an increase in carbon and oxygen contents each less than or equal to 0.2 wt % relative to the metal powder used to fabricate the article.

Feedstock composition and method of using same for powder metallurgy forming a reactive metals

The invention pertains to methods of forming monolayers on various surfaces. The surfaces can be selected from a wide array of materials, including, for example, aluminum dioxide, silicon dioxide, carbon and SiC. The substrates can be planar or porous. The monolayer is formed under enhanced pressure conditions. The monolayer contains functionalized molecules, and accordingly functionalizes a surface of the substrate. The properties of the functionalized substrate can enhance the substrate's applicability for numerous purposes including, for example, utilization in extracting contaminants, or incorporation into a polymeric matrix.
