A method and network node for virtual beam sweeping of signals received by antennas of the network node are provided. According to one aspect, a method includes determining elements of abeam forming matrix W. The method further includes determining elements of a virtual beam sweeping matrix V, the elements of the virtual beam sweeping matrix V being determined to form beams between beams formed by the beam forming matrix W. The method also includes applying the matrices V and W to uplink signals Sreceived by antennas of the network node to produce received signals Sin a beam space.

According to some embodiments, a network node configured to communicate with a wireless device is provided. The network node includes processing circuitry configured to: configure a first measurement resource for channel measurements, configure a second measurement resource for interference measurements, cause transmission of a first signal with a first predefined power level in a transmission occasion of the first measurement resource, and cause transmission of a second signal with a second predefined power level in a transmission occasion of the second measurement resource where at least one of the first predefined power level and the second predefined power level is configured to at least in part mitigate channel quality indication, CQI, saturation.

A method for using a high order modulation (HoM) mode for communications with a wireless device in a wireless communication network is provided. The method includes receiving downlink channel quality indicator (CQI) information from an uplink transmission of the wireless device and determining a downlink channel quality estimate from the CQI information. When a measurement of the downlink channel quality estimate satisfies the predetermined criteria for a first predetermined number of consecutive uplink transmissions from the wireless device, a downlink transmission mode of the wireless device is switched from a first modulation mode to the HoM mode.
