A systems for detecting level sensor malfunction or tampering based on reductant consumption and determining when to initiate a quality check of reductant used in an aftertreatment system are disclosed. The system comprises a memory storing instructions and a processor executing the instructions to perform a process including: receiving dosing data associated with an amount of DEF supplied to the aftertreatment system; receiving tank level data from a level sensor in a DEF tank; comparing the dosing data with the tank level data; and based on the comparison: initiating, by the one or more processors, a quality check; and/or determining, by the one or more processors, a possible error requiring further diagnostics; and causing to present, by the one or more processors, an indication that the quality check is being initiated and/or that a possible error requires further diagnostics on a display.

Detecting sensor malfunction or tampering based on reductant consumption

An engine valve actuation system includes engine braking rocker arms each having a hydraulically actuated switch, and an electrohydraulic control system including an actuation fluid supply, an electrically actuated valve adjustable to vary a pressure of actuation fluid supplied from the actuation fluid supply to the hydraulically actuated switches, and an engine braking control unit. The engine braking control unit is structured to command adjusting the electrically actuated valve to adjust the hydraulically actuated switch in each of the engine braking rocker arms at a switching window timing that is varied from engine braking cycle to engine braking cycle to distribute hard handoffs among the engine braking rocker arms.

A reduction device includes a housing defining an input chamber configured to receive exhaust from a power source, an output chamber, an exhaust channel configured to direct the exhaust from the input chamber to the output chamber, and a longitudinal axis. The reduction device also includes a treatment unit disposed in the exhaust channel and along the longitudinal axis. The treatment unit is configured to at least partly remove pollutant species from the exhaust. The reduction device also includes an attenuation component disposed in the housing and radially outward of the treatment unit. The attenuation component is fluidly connected to the exhaust channel, and is configured to attenuate a range of frequencies corresponding to operation of the power source. Additionally, the exhaust channel prohibits exhaust entering the input chamber from exiting the housing without passing through the treatment unit.

Fluid level wake-up functionality

A reductant storage system for an internal combustion engine system includes a storage container having a bottom wall, a top wall opposite the bottom wall, an opening extending through the top wall, and a reservoir formed by a hollow interior of the storage container; a filter assembly; and a header assembly. The filter assembly extends through the opening and is configured to seal the opening and includes a filtering material. The header assembly extends through the opening and inside the filter assembly. The header assembly includes: (i) a first sensor configured to measure a quality of the reductant contained within the filter assembly and (ii) a second sensor configured to measure a level of the reductant contained within the filter assembly.

Systems and methods for fluid level and quality measurement for reductant storage systems

An engine optimization controller may determine values of a set of input parameters of an engine and process, using an engine model, the values to determine a plurality of sets of potential output parameters. The engine optimization controller may determine, based on the plurality of sets of potential output parameters, an engine optimization scheme, which may indicate a first number of cylinders, of one or more cylinders of the engine, to be active and to receive gas; a second number of cylinders, of the one or more cylinders, to be inactive and to receive gas, and/or a third number of cylinders, of the one or more cylinders, to be inactive and to not receive gas. The engine optimization controller may provide the engine configuration scheme to another controller to allow control of the one or more cylinders and one or more fuel injectors according to the engine configuration scheme.

An exhaust system includes an exhaust pressure sensing system having sensor conduits structured to fluidly connect to an exhaust conduit in an exhaust system and feed exhaust to a differential pressure sensor. The differential pressure sensor produces a pressure signal indicative of a pressure drop across an exhaust aftertreatment element such as an exhaust filter. A plugging-mitigation conduit provides an always-open leakage path to convey condensate in a stream of leaked exhaust between the sensor conduits to prevent formation of deposits that can impact pressure sensing accuracy.

A reductant supply system for an exhaust aftertreatment system is disclosed. The reductant supply system may include a controller configured to receive an engine system operation signal and transmit a reductant delivery signal in response to the engine system operation signal, an injector configured to dispense a reductant fluid into an exhaust gas flow of the exhaust aftertreatment system in response to the reductant delivery signal, and a pump configured to actuate between an off condition and an on condition in response to the reductant delivery signal. Furthermore, the reductant supply system may include a recycle line and a two-way valve positioned in the recycle line configured to actuate between a closed position and an open position in response to the reductant delivery signal.

Reductant supply system

A method for purging a reductant supply system for an engine is provided. The reductant supply system includes a reservoir to store a reductant. The reductant supply system further includes an injector to inject reductant in an exhaust conduit of the engine. The reductant supply system also includes a conduit coupled between the reservoir and the injector to supply the reductant. The method for purging the reductant supply system includes initiating purging of the injector and the conduit such that the reductant in the injector and conduit flows to the reservoir. The method further includes monitoring of the dilution of the reductant during purging and indicating a completion of the purging when the dilution of the reductant in the reservoir reaches a threshold value.

Reductant supply system for engine

A dosing system for dosing diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) into an inlet of a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) aftertreatment module of a diesel engine is described. The dosing system may comprise a DEF supply line configured to deliver the DEF from a pump to a first injector and a second injector at the inlet. The DEF supply line may include a tri-axis connector configured to split the DEF from the pump into two portions each exiting one of a first outlet port and a second outlet port, a first delivery conduit configured to deliver the DEF exiting the first outlet port to the first injector, and a second delivery conduit configured to deliver the DEF exiting the second outlet port to the second injector. The first injector and the second injector may dose the same quantity of the DEF into the inlet of the aftertreatment module.

Diesel exhaust fluid dosing system for diesel engine aftertreatment module

A reductant supply system includes a reductant tank, an injector supply conduit fluidly connecting the reductant tank with an injector, a driving fluid source in fluid communication with the reductant tank via a dose driving conduit, a purge conduit in fluid communication with the driving fluid source and the reductant tank, and a valve in fluid communication with the reductant tank via the dose driving conduit and the purge conduit.

A flame detection system is disclosed. The system may have a flame chamber and a filter, wherein the filter includes filter media configured to collect matter from an engine exhaust. Additionally, the filter may be disposed downstream of the flame chamber. An ignition device may be disposed in the flame chamber and may be configured to ignite a flame in the flame chamber to regenerate the filter. A sensor may be disposed proximate the ignition device, and may be configured to sense a change in electrical conductivity that is indicative of a presence of the flame in the flame chamber.

A reductant dosing system for an engine is disclosed. The disclosed reductant dosing system includes a reservoir of reductant fluid that is connected to an inlet of a reductant pump. The pump has an outlet that is fluidly connected to the reservoir, an inlet of a pressure regulator and an inlet of an injector. The pressure regulator includes a reductant pressure control valve that fluidly connects the outlet of the reductant pump to the reservoir when the reductant pressure control valve is in an open position. A compressed gas source is fluidly connected to an air supply control valve that fluidly connects the compressed gas source to the reservoir when the air supply control valve is in an open position. The air supply control valve also has a closed position and is shifted between the open and closed positions by a controller.

Reductant dosing system

A power system including an exhaust producing engine, an exhaust system and an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system is provided. The EGR system may include an EGR flowpath and an air intake system. The EGR system may also include an EGR valve configured to regulate the flow of exhaust gases through the EGR flowpath. The power system may also include a monitoring system configured to monitor operating parameters of at least two components of the EGR system. The power system may also include a controller configured to determine, based on the monitored operating parameters, a maximum flowrate value for each of the components. Each of the maximum flowrate values may represent the maximum EGR flowrate for that component. The controller may be configured to control the EGR valve, based on the maximum flowrate values, to result in an EGR flowrate no greater than the lowest of the maximum flowrate values.

Exhaust gas recirculation system

A method for operating a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine includes varying the opening or closing of engine valves including intake or exhaust valves, in fluid communication with each of the cylinders of the engine. The method further includes generating a signal indicative of engine valve status in response to monitoring an acceleration parameter of the engine. An engine includes a computer configured to determine a performance status of intake or exhaust valves of the engine responsive to monitoring an engine acceleration parameter such as crankshaft acceleration. The computer is configured via fault detection and cylinder trimming routines to adjust valve performance based on a nominal crankshaft acceleration for the engine.

Variable valve performance detection strategy for internal combustion engine

A method for operating a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine includes controlling opening of intake or exhaust valves, via a step of generating a control current in a control circuit for an electrical actuator coupled with the valve. The control circuit is then monitored for an induced current that differs from the control current, and a signal outputted that is indicative of valve performance responsive to monitoring the control circuit. Another operating method includes determining engine valve performance and also trimming an engine valve based on one signal which is indicative of valve performance. An internal combustion engine includes an electrical actuator configured to control opening or closing of one of an intake valve and an exhaust valve. An electronic control module is configured via a software fault detection routine to determine a performance condition of an intake or exhaust valve in the engine via monitoring a control circuit for induced currents when an electrical actuator coupled with the intake or exhaust valve is de-energized.
