A method is provided for playing one or more key portions of a voice communication. The method includes storing, in a memory, a communication that includes one or more speech signals and a tag identifying a key portion of the one or more speech signals. The communication and the tag are retrieved from the memory. The key portion of the communication identified by the tag is played for a first end user.

System and method for the playing of key phrases in voice mail messages

In accordance with one embodiment of the present invention, a method for communicating information to a user includes transmitting a plurality of indicator messages to a communication device associated with a particular user, each indicator message associated with an audio message for the user. The method also includes receiving, from the communication device, information indicating an order for two or more of the audio messages. The match data includes information associated with an attempt by the remote element to match received audio information to first stored audio data. System and method for maintaining a speech-recognition grammar

Words are spelled by receiving recognizable words from a user of an interactive voice response system. The first letter of each recognizable word is identified, and a spelling is determined based on the first letters of the recognizable words. Statistics for previous users of the interactive voice response system are determined, where the statistics indicate the number of times each of the recognizable words has been used to indicate a letter. The recognizable word that is most commonly used for each letter is identified. The user is prompted with at least two recognizable words that are most commonly used, where each recognizable word corresponds to a different letter. A selection of one of the recognizable words provided to the user is received.

A recording device at a calling party premises is configured for recording a message for a messaging subscriber by the calling party, and sending the recorded message, via a data network, to a destination message store serving the messaging subscriber. The recording device sends the recorded message based on messaging subscriber attributes retrieved via the data network. Hence, a calling party can utilize a recording device at the calling party premises for recording a message for a messaging subscriber, and sending the message via the data network to a destination message store, eliminating the necessity of establishing any voice-grade connection or a media connection between the calling party and any server (e.g., messaging server, media gateway server, etc.).

A server routes one's incoming messages to his/her communication devices according to his/her routing preferences, and modifies the messages as needed. For example, the server can route an incoming page to one's email account and, if necessary, modify the page so that it is compatible with the email client. Thus, the server enables a number of diverse features such as: selection of routing topology (direct or indirect), translation of network restrictions, conditioning a synchronous communication for reception by an asynchronous device, message encryption, and callback or &ldquo;buddy list&rdquo; services.
