Embodiments of the invention provide hydrodissection and/or PCO prevention or reduction in a patient undergoing eye surgery. In one embodiment, the invention is a surgical device for cutting and excising a portion of tissue, for example in performing a lens capsulotomy. A capsulotomy tip is inserted into an eye through an incision in the surface of the eye. The capsulotomy tip includes a suction cup to provide suction to the lens capsule. Then suction is applied via the suction cup to secure the capsulotomy tip to the eye. In some embodiments, after the capsulotomy tip is secured to the lens capsule, a cutting element of the capsulotomy tip is used to cut a tissue of the eye. Fluid is pushed through the capsulotomy tip and the capsulotomy tip is removed from the eye. Moreover, disclosed is an intraocular lens (IOL) to be used in conjunction with the surgical device.

Hydrodissection and posterior capsule opacification prevention during capsulotomy procedure

An apparatus includes an intraocular pseudophakic contact lens configured to be implanted in an eye and mounted on or attached to an artificial intraocular lens in the eye. The intraocular pseudophakic contact lens includes (i) an optical lens and (ii) haptics extending radially from the optical lens and configured to be inserted under an anterior leaflet of a capsular wall in the eye. Posterior surfaces of the haptics include ridges configured to capture at least one edge of the artificial intraocular lens. The haptics are flexible such that outer portions of the haptics are configured to drive the ridges into the at least one edge of the artificial intraocular lens based on surface pressure from the anterior leaflet against the outer portions of the haptics.

Intraocular pseudophakic contact lens (IOPCL)-based telescopic approach for treating age-related macular degeneration (AMD) or other eye disorders

A system includes an intraocular pseudophakic contact lens configured to be implanted in an eye and mounted on or attached to an artificial intraocular lens in the eye. The system also includes an external lens configured to be positioned in front of the eye. The intraocular pseudophakic contact lens and the external lens form a telescopic Galilean vision system. The external lens may include a spectacle lens or a contact lens. The intraocular pseudophakic contact lens may include an optical lens configured to provide a minus power optical magnification, and the external lens may be configured to provide a plus power optical magnification. The optical lens of the intraocular pseudophakic contact lens may include a central portion configured to provide a minus power optical magnification and an annular portion surrounding the central portion and configured to provide a different power optical magnification or no optical magnification.

A device for reducing the incidence of surgical debris migration within a mammalian eye comprising an anterior portion, the anterior portion with an anterior inner surface and an opposing anterior outer surface, the anterior inner surface and the anterior outer surface terminating at an anterior edge that defines an open anterior end; and a posterior portion, with a posterior inner surface and an opposing posterior outer surface, the posterior inner surface and the posterior outer surface terminating at a posterior edge, the posterior edge defining an open posterior end; and a waist connecting the anterior portion and the posterior portion, the waist comprising a waist inner surface and an opposing waist outer surface; and an aperture extending from the open anterior end, through the waist, and to the open posterior end, the aperture bounded by the anterior inner surface, the waist inner surface, and the posterior inner surface.

Ocular protection ring

A load-carrying box on a land vehicle in the form of a generally rectangular container having an upper perimeter defined by a top edge of each of the walls encompassing an open top is covered by a flexible sheet cover having a first end secured adjacent a top edge of one of the side walls. A second end of the flexible sheet is attached to a roller having opposite ends projecting beyond the top edges of two end walls forming the load-carrying box. A motor is coupled to the roller for rolling and unrolling the flexible sheet cover along the top edges of the two end walls and along bows connecting the two side walls. An arm has a first end coupled to the roller and a second end including a slot engaging a pin defining a pivot for the arm so that the roller can remain in constant contact with the top edges of the end walls and bows as the flexible sheet cover is deployed and retrieved. The arm is in the form of a box beam of fixed length having an outer member, an inner member confronting the load-carrying box, and side joining members joining the outer member to the inner member, the inner member including the pivot slot. The motor is fixed to the arm between the roller and the slot, and a drive unit couples the motor to the roller, the drive unit being enclosed within the box beam.
