A hinge area and processes of forming the hinge area are described. The hinge area is part of cover of a laptop computer. A material used for the cover is of a certain thickness. Stamping and forming a shape that defines the hinge area is performed on the material. The top of the shape is cut to provide for sides of the hinge area. Squeeze forging operations are performed to thicken the sides, and CNC machining is further performed on the sides.

Method of creating mechanical strength and industrial design aesthetics for hinge area of computing devices

A chassis defines a system housing that houses a processing system and a display system. A chassis wall provided on the chassis includes a first carbon fiber layer that provides an outer surface of the chassis that is located opposite the chassis wall from the housing and a ceramic layer that is bonded to the first carbon fiber layer and located opposite the first carbon fiber layer from the outer surface. The ceramic layer provides additional stiffness to the chassis wall to resist deflection of the chassis wall into at least one of the display system and the processing system in response to a force. The chassis wall may include a second carbon fiber layer that is bonded to the ceramic layer and located opposite the ceramic layer from the first carbon fiber layer to provide an inner surface of the chassis wall.

A latch couples the support with an inclined lower surface so that pulling on the tablet information handling system without releasing of the latch translates into a more secure latch coupling. A latch release timer allows one-handed detachment by maintaining the latch in a released position for a predetermined time after latch release actuation.

An information handling system includes a base, a hinge area, and a clutch device. The hinge area is in physical communication with the base, and includes a curved portion. The curved portion is to be placed in physical communication with a tablet computer when the tablet computer is in a first open position, and the hinge area is to hold the tablet computer in the first open position. The clutch device is located within the hinge area, and includes rollers, a shaft, and a clutch housing. A weight of the tablet computer is to exert a first torque on the clutch device. The rollers are to lock the clutch device in response to the first torque, and the clutch device locks in response to the rollers being placed in physical communication with both the shaft and the clutch housing.

A system and method for a multi-functional security mechanism in a docking station is disclosed. A docking station includes a hook to secure a portable computer to the docking station. A base plate includes a locked orientation and an unlocked orientation. A lever couples to the base plate to cause the base plate to actuate between the locked and unlocked orientation. A media bay, disposed in the docking station, receives a media device. A media bay lock pin couples to the media bay, engages the media device, and prevents removal of the media device from the media bay. A media bay lock couples to the base plate to release the media bay lock pin to engage the media device placed in the media bay. A media device sensor may associate with the media bay lock pin to permit the media bay lock pin to engage the media device.

System and method for a multi-functional security mechanism in a docking station

A portable information handling system includes a monitor stand. The monitor stand includes a base surface with a positioning member movably located on the base surface. A docking system is removably mounted on the positioning member, and a portable computer is docked with the docking system. A support member extends from the base surface and is positioned such that a front section and side sections of the monitor stand are free from obstructions, allowing enhanced access to the portable computer and to the docking system. A cantilever support surface extends from the support member and is substantially parallel to and spaced apart from the base surface. A monitor is mounted on the cantilever support surface.

A catch member is mounted in the housing and is movable between a catch position and a release position. The catch member is moved in response to movement by the second member to the second position. The first heat transfer structure has a body portion and a key portion extending from the body portion. The core module assembly also includes a second heat transfer structure having a keying slot defined therein. Relative movement between the first heat transfer structure and the second heat transfer structure is limited when the key portion of the first heat transfer structure is positioned within the keying slot of the second heat transfer structure. The core module assembly includes a fastener for maintaining the key portion of the first heat transfer structure within the keying slot of the second heat transfer structure.

The core module assembly also includes a housing for containing the microprocessor. The housing has a first fastening surface. The housing also includes a heat transfer structure positioned in thermal communication with the microprocessor. The heat transfer structure has an elongated channel defined therein. The core module assembly further includes a heat dissipating cover having an elongated tongue extending therefrom. The cover further has a second fastening surface. The cover is positionable between a non-biased position and a biased position. When the cover is positioned in the non-biased position, the first fastening surface of the housing is spaced apart from the second fastening surface of the cover and the tongue is positioned within the elongated channel. When the cover is positioned in the biased position, the first fastening surface of the housing is positioned in physical contact with the second fastening surface of the cover and the tongue is positioned within the elongated channel. When the cover is moved from the non-biased position to the biased position, the tongue is urged toward and into contact with an inner wall of the channel, whereby an efficient thermal interface is created between the tongue and the inner wall of the channel.
