The present disclosure relates to automotive heat exchanger assemblies that may withstand high environmental temperature and pressures conditions. By providing a tube strengthener into the tubes at the areas of highest stress, the heat exchanger assembly may be strengthened so that it is substantially more efficient under typical operating conditions.

Automotive heat exchanger assemblies having internal fins and methods of making the same

The present invention relates to automotive heat exchanger assemblies that can withstand high environmental temperature and pressures conditions. By providing a tube strengthener inserted into the tubes at the areas of highest stress, the heat exchanger assembly is strengthened to be efficient under typical operating conditions.

A novel tube plug which may be used to plug selected tubes in a heat exchanger has a cap portion for substantially closing a heat exchanger tube and a tube engaging portion depending from the cap portion, for insertion into the tube to retain the tube plug. By applying solder to the tube plug, the tube is sealed off, without providing a large solder mass which could cause damage due to thermal stresses.
