A system and method is disclosed for storing a fluid in a storage vessel in liquefied form and delivering it in gaseous form to an end user through a supply line. The system comprises a pressure relief circuit for returning the fluid from the supply line to the vessel when predetermined conditions are met. The pressure relief circuit comprises a return line connected to the supply line and the storage vessel, a diversion line to divert the fluid elsewhere and a switching device operable to direct the fluid to either one of the lines, as a function of predetermined conditions.

Venting of gaseous fuel during operation and after shutdown of an internal combustion engine increases emissions. A vent handling apparatus for a gaseous fuel system of an internal combustion engine comprises an accumulator for storing gaseous fuel; a first valve selectively enabling fluid communication between the accumulator and one of a gaseous fuel communication passage and a gaseous fuel storage vessel, the gaseous fuel communication passage delivering gaseous fuel to the internal combustion engine for combustion; and an apparatus for selectively returning the gaseous fuel from the accumulator to the internal combustion engine for combustion.

A fuel injection valve introduces a fuel into an engine and controlling fuel flow to reduce variability between injection events. The fuel injection valve employs an arrangement for a valve nozzle that cooperates with a valve needle to provide a range of needle movement within which the fuel mass flow rate is substantially constant. This can be achieved by providing a restriction with a constant flow area for a predetermined range of needle movement. The method comprises commanding a valve needle to a position within the predetermined range of needle movement to reduce variability in the fuel mass flow rate, particularly when the engine is idling or operating under low load conditions. Valve needle lift is variable during an injection event and from one injection event to another injection event.

The nozzle comprises a fuel injection port oriented to direct a fuel spray against a surface of the sleeve An inlet in the sleeve allows air and fuel to enter the shielded space to form a combustible mixture therein. The sleeve contains a substantial amount of the combustible mixture within the shielded space until it ignites and pressure builds within the shielded space to propel a combustion flame through at least one discharge opening and into contact with the fuel sprays emerging from the fuel injection nozzle.
