A battery pack is provided with an improved interface through the use of an endcap which forms a top surface of a battery pack housing. The endcap includes a walled aperture for a connector. The connector along with electronic circuitry is disposed on a printed circuit board located beneath the endcap. A dam of UV glue surrounds a perimeter of the connector preventing the potting compound from intruding into contacts. An endcap perimeter rim of UV glue seals the endcap to the housing. The endcap further includes an injection port and flow directors for guiding a potting compound into the endcap to form a water tight seal.

Battery pack interface

A battery pack is provided with an improved charger interface through the use a contact carrier assembly. The non-conductive contact carrier aligns and retains a plurality of charger contacts. The carrier aligns a first portion of each charger contact along a back surface of the battery pack housing and further facilitates alignment of another portion of each charger contact within bottom apertures of the housing thereby allowing each contact to extend across perpendicular back and bottom surfaces of the housing with improved ruggedness. Improved sealing is also provided by sealing the back of the carrier.

Battery pack with charger interface

A connector assembly for connecting a battery to different electrical components within an electrical device includes a housing, and a plurality of sheet metal contacts coupled to and extending through the housing. The plurality of sheet metal contacts define a plurality of battery contact regions and a plurality of internal contact regions spaced form the plurality of battery contact regions. The plurality of internal contact regions physically contact the plurality of different electrical components. A first one of the plurality of internal contact regions is offset from a second one of the plurality of internal contact regions in a different spatial plane than a spatial plane of the second one of the plurality of internal contact regions.

Connector assembly

A multiunit charger including a base, a plurality of charging pockets coupled to the base, an accessory organization bar coupled to the base, and a charging circuit coupled to the base. Each one of the plurality of charging pockets is for charging a respective battery powered portable communication device. The accessory organization bar provides retention for a battery powered accessory device. The charging circuit charges the respective battery powered portable communication device. Also disclosed is a battery charging system having the multiunit charger and the accessory device. The accessory device may include a clip coupling the accessory device to the accessory organization bar. The charging circuit may include a transmitter antenna, and the accessory device-may include a receiver antenna in wireless charging communication with the transmitter antenna.

Multiunit charger

A battery connector system for connecting a battery to a battery powered device is provided herein that includes an insert molded contact block comprising a contact block, a plurality of electrical contacts insert molded into the contact block, and an outer electrical connection for electrically coupling the plurality of electrical contacts to the battery powered device. The battery connector system further includes an inner electrical connection located on a housing enclosure for electrically coupling the battery housed in the housing enclosure to the outer electrical connection through the plurality of electrical contacts. The battery connector system further includes a sealed electrical path between the inner electrical connection and the outer electrical connection, wherein the sealed electrical path is formed by over molding the insert molded contact block with the housing enclosure.

Battery connector system

A charger () provides a self aligning, compliant connector with multiples degrees of freedom. The charger () comprises a housing having an aperture () through which a charger connector () is mounted via an interior interface formed of convex protrusions () and concave recesses () that provide a predetermined range of rotational motion and self-alignment for the charger connector () within the aperture () thereby facilitating mating with a corresponding connector of a radio. Compliant pads () apply a compressible force to further control the rotational motion of the charger connector ().

An electronic device and battery are presented. The electronic device includes the battery, which has a first latch. The first latch has an arm and a hook. The arm is connected with the battery at a connected end and the hook at a free end opposed to the connected end. The hook forms a peak and a base connected with the free end. The base forms an inwardly projecting groove. The electronic device also includes a device housing forming a main cavity bound by first and second side surfaces, a rear surface and a bottom surface. The first side surface includes a ledge for receiving the groove and defines a latch cavity for receiving the first latch. In an engaged position, the peak extends into the latch cavity and the groove engages the ledge.

An interconnect assembly () includes a spring member () integrally formed of a first portion () having two prongs () and a slot (), the first portion being coupled to a second deflected portion () formed of a cantilevered beam () with interference fit tabs () extending from either side. A latch () includes hooks () and foot members (). A housing (), such as a battery pack housing, includes a side surface () having protrusion () and pockets () formed therein along with vertical side channels (). The spring, latch and housing () are coupled such that the vertical channels () capture and guide the interference fit tabs () down the side of the housing () as the foot members () of the latch () are inserted into the pockets () of the housing (). As the spring member () is pushed downward, the protrusion () of the housing () captures the slot (), and the hooks () of the latch () capture the interference fit tabs () of the spring member thereby providing a locked latch-spring assembly ().

Battery housing

An improved electrical interconnect member for rechargeable battery packs is provided. The interconnect member includes a metal tab and a plastic housing. The metal tab preferably includes side bends projecting below the tab in a non-perpendicular geometric orientation with the top of the tab. The tab includes at least one lance for preventing post-assembly, lateral movement between the tab and housing. The housing is preferably Y-shaped, with the outer surfaces of the Y having concave curvatures. The concave curvatures allow the housing to seat between adjoining, cylindrical cells. The housing includes a rail with a cross section that corresponds to the area between the side bends and the top of the tab. The housing also includes a post for coupling to the lances.

Interconnect for rechargeable computer batteries

This invention includes a battery pack capable of attaching to an ordinary belt. The battery pack includes springy, U-shaped clips that are capable of coupling to objects such as belts. The clips are coupled to the battery pack by way of ball and socket joints, thereby allowing the battery pack to be mounted at any of a number of angles, including horizontal and vertical configurations. The battery pack optionally includes a torso accommodation curve to make the battery pack more comfortable for the user.

This invention includes a charger that may be mounted either in a horizontal configuration, e.g. on a desktop, or in a vertical configuration, e.g. on a wall. The charger has pockets geometrically oriented so as to support batteries in either configuration. Each pocket includes a corresponding display. As changing from a desktop configuration to a wall mount configuration requires the user to rotate the charger by 180 degrees, a switch is provided to rotate the information shown on the display by 180 degrees. The switch is preferably recessed below the surface of the charger so as to prevent nuisance actuation. The resulting orientation of the display is stored in a non-volatile memory to prevent resets when power is removed. By holding the switch down for a predetermined amount of time, a user can send the display into a test mode so as to run diagnostics and verify proper display operation.

Battery charger

This invention includes an improved interconnect assembly for use in rechargeable battery packs for laptop computers. The invention eliminates manufacturing defects resulting from the hand soldering processes of the prior art. The assembly provides interconnection for rechargeable cells oriented end to end, in parallel rows. Insulated runners provide interconnection to a bus located along the center of the end to end cells. The bus is a flexible circuit that couples to a printed circuit board. In one preferred embodiment, the bus is less than two inches in diameter and less than the diameters of the parallel rows of end to end cells in length. The assembly eliminates the need for hand soldering, eliminates cumbersome wire routing, and offers multiple insulation features that prevent electrical shorts.

Interconnect system for rechargeable computer batteries

This invention includes an electronic accessory having a single button that actuates all of its control features. In one embodiment, the accessory is a MP3 player wherein songs are stored on a multimedia card. Once the card has been loaded an inserted, the MP3 player is coupled to an energy source. In a preferred embodiment, the energy source is preferably a cellular telephone. After coupling, all of the functions of the MP3 player are controlled with a single button. In a preferred embodiment, power is actuated by pushing the button for one second. Volume is adjusted by toggling the button laterally. Tracks are selected by pushing the button quickly while power is applied. Power is turned off by depressing the button for two seconds or more.
