Disclosed is a process to produce a purified vapor comprising dialkyl-furan-2,5-dicarboxylate (DAFD). Furan-2,5-dicarboxylic acid (FDCA) and an alcohol in an esterification zone to generate a crude diester stream containing dialkyl furan dicarboxylate (DAFD), unreacted alcohol, 5-(alkoxycarbonyl)furan-2-carboxylic acid (ACFC), and alkyl furan-2-carboxylate (AFC). The esterification zone comprises at least one reactor that has been previously used in an DMT process.

Disclosed is a process to produce a purified vapor comprising dialkyl-furan-2,5-dicarboxylate (DAFD). The process comprises oxidizing a feed stream comprising at least one oxidizable compound to generate a crude carboxylic acid slurry comprising furan-2,5-dicarboxylic acid (FDCA) and compositions thereof. Also disclosed is a process to produce a dry purified carboxylic acid product by utilizing various purification methods on the crude carboxylic acid.

Ligands for use with catalyst compositions used in hydroformylation reactions are described herein. The ligands are used with various octofluorotoluene or hydrocarbon solvents and achieve an increase in isoselectivity with an increase in temperature, an increase in TON with an increase in temperature, and/or will show isoselectivity that is surprisingly high in comparison to the hydroformylation reactions using common solvents.

Disclosed is a method for purifying aromatic dicarboxylic acid such as isophthalic acid or terephthalic acid. The process treats a crude carboxylic acid (CCA) composition by feeding a CCA composition comprising a liquid and a solid to a filter cake formation zone to form a CCA wet cake composition and a first mother liquor stream; dewatering said CCA wet cake composition to form a dewatered CCA wet cake composition having a second liquid level that is lower than the first liquid level or having no liquid level and a second mother liquor stream; and washing the dewatered CCA wet cake composition with a wash stream in a wash zone to forma washed CCA wet cake composition and a wash liquor stream.

Methods and apparatus for isolating dicarboxylic acid

The invention relates to a process for purifying and decolorizing a phenyl ester salt. The process combines a phenyl ester salt with a solvent to form a mixture and then stirs the mixture to form a slurry. The phenyl ester salt is substantially insoluble in this solvent. The process then collects the phenyl ester salt from the slurry. The collected phenyl ester salt may then be optionally dried or recrystallized. The collected phenyl ester salt is dissolved in a solvent to form a solution. The solution is decolorized and then spray dried to form a powder of the phenyl ester salt. As a result of the process the phenyl ester salt powder has a higher purity and an improved color as compared to the starting phenyl ester salt.

Purification of phenyl ester salts

A process for the purification and isolation of a chemical compound, by extractive solution crystallization. The process comprises combining in any order a first solvent, a second solvent, and a mixture comprising a chemical compound with at least one impurity. The second solvent phase extracts impurities out of the first solvent, and keeps the impurities dissolved to avoid their co-crystallization with the phenyl ester salt. Once the chemical compound has crystallized out of solution, it is collected, washed and/or dried. The second solvent may be added after the mixture containing at least one chemical compound is dissolved in a first solvent, as long as the second solvent phase is added prior to the end of crystallization. Advantageously, this invention combines the previously distinct steps of extraction and crystallization in one unit operation. The process may be used with a variety of chemical compounds particularly, phenyl ester salts, including but not limited to sodium 4-sulfophenyl-6-&lsqb;(1-oxynonyl)amino&rsqb; hexanoate, sodium 4-(nonanoyloxy) benzenesulfonate, and sodium benzoyloxybenzenesulphonate.

Extractive solution crystallization of chemical compounds

The invention relates to a process for isolating a phenyl ester salt from a mixture comprising sulfolane (tetrahydrothiophene-1,1-dioxide). The invention includes adjusting the temperature of a mixture comprising a phenyl ester salt and sulfolane to a temperature of about 100-150&deg; C. This step leads to the formation of a mixture comprising a solid phenyl ester salt and sulfolane. Next, the solid phenyl ester salt is separated, while maintaining the temperature of the mixture at about 100-150&deg; C. The invention also relates to a process that includes adding a sufficient amount of a solvent to a mixture comprising a phenyl ester salt and sulfolane to decrease the viscosity or the density of the mixture. The solvent added has a density less than about 1.20 g/cm at 100&deg; C. or a viscosity of less than about 2.56 centipoise at 100&deg; C. The embodiments of the invention may be used alone or in combination. This invention may be used for the isolation of a variety of phenyl ester salts, including but not limited to sodium 4-sulfophenyl-6-&lsqb;(1-oxynonyl)amino&rsqb;hexanoate, sodium 4-(nonanoyloxy) benzenesulfonate, and sodium benzoyloxybenzenesulphonate.
