An apparatus includes a catheter, a housing configured to house at least a portion of the catheter, and an actuator movably coupled to the housing. The housing has a first port configured to receive a proximal end portion of the catheter and a second port configured to couple the housing to an indwelling vascular access device. A portion of the actuator is disposed within the housing and is configured to be movably coupled to a portion of the catheter. The actuator is configured to be moved a first distance to move a distal end portion of the catheter a second distance greater than the first distance from a first position to a second position. The distal end portion of the catheter is disposed within the housing when in the first position and is distal to the indwelling vascular access device when in the second position.

Systems and methods for controlling catheter device size

An apparatus includes a catheter, an introducer, and an actuator. A distal end portion of the introducer is configured to be coupled to a peripheral intravenous line. The introducer defines an inner volume having a first portion that defines an axis parallel to and offset from an axis defined by a second portion. A first portion of the actuator is movably disposed in the first portion of the inner volume. A second portion of the actuator is movably disposed in the second portion of the inner volume and coupled to the catheter movably disposed in the second portion of the inner volume. The actuator moves the catheter between a first position, in which the catheter is disposed within the introducer, and a second position, in which at least a portion of the catheter is disposed within the peripheral intravenous line.

Devices and methods for fluid transfer through a placed peripheral intravenous catheter

An apparatus includes a catheter, an introducer, and an actuator. A distal end portion of the introducer is configured to couple to an indwelling peripheral intravenous line. The actuator is movably coupled to the introducer and is configured to move the catheter between a first position, in which the catheter is disposed within the introducer, and a second position, in which a distal end portion of the catheter is distal to the introducer. A transfer device includes an introducer coupleable to a peripheral intravenous catheter, with the introducer having a proximal end portion and a distal end portion, a catheter having a proximal end portion and a distal end portion and defining a lumen, a secondary catheter having a proximal end portion and a distal end portion and defining a lumen, and an actuator receiving the proximal end portion of the catheter and the distal end portion of the secondary catheter. The catheter is configured to be moved between a first position, in which the catheter is proximal to the peripheral intravenous line when the introducer is operably coupled thereto, and a second position, in which a distal surface of the catheter is distal to the introducer and disposed at a predetermined distance from a distal tip of the peripheral intravenous line. The predetermined distance defined between the distal surface of the catheter and the distal tip of the peripheral intravenous line is based at least in part on a venous anatomy associated with the vein.
