The present invention relates to a composition comprising: a) an aqueous dispersion of i) polymer particles functionalized with structural units of a phosphorus acid monomer; and ii) TiOparticles; b) a sulfur acid functionalized dispersant; and c) a carboxylic acid functionalized dispersant. The composition of the present invention addresses a need in the art by providing a way to tune TiO-binder composite formation efficiency with relative ease.

Coating composition with phosphorus acid-functionalized latex particles and acid functionalized dispersants

The present invention relates to a composition comprising an amphoteric polymer having pendant acid groups, or salts thereof, and pendant mono- or dialkylamino ethylene oxide groups or alkylammonium ethylene oxide groups characterized by either of the following formulas: where R-Rand Xare as defined herein. The composition of the present invention improves hiding efficiency for coating compositions formulated using associative rheology modifiers, binders, and titanium dioxide.

Amphoteric polymer composition

The present invention relates to a stable aqueous pigment dispersion including: an aqueous medium, pigment particles, and from 0.1% to 15%, by weight based on the weight of pigment, of a certain first water-soluble polymer; and 2) a certain second water-soluble polymer; wherein the dispersant comprises a proportion of the first polymer to the second polymer of from 0.1:1 to 10:1 on a solids basis, and the first polymer and the second polymer are miscible in those proportions; and wherein the dispersant is substantially free of structural units of phosphorus acid monomers and their salts. The invention also relates to a method for forming the stable aqueous dispersion and a dry coating formed from the aqueous dispersion. The stable aqueous dispersion is useful, inter alia, for forming certain composite particles.

Aqueous pigment dispersion

The present invention relates to a composition comprising an aqueous dispersion of an associative thickener having a hydrophobic portion with a calculated log P in the range of from 2.7 to 5.0; and composite particles comprising phosphorus acid functionalized polymer particles adsorbed to the surfaces of TiOparticles; wherein the phosphorus acid functionalized polymer particles have a core-shell morphology wherein the core protuberates from the shell. The composition of the present invention provides formulators with flexibility in their use of low and mid shear rate thickeners to balance paint performance properties.

Pigmented paint formulation with a phosphorus acid functionalized latex binder and an associative thickener

The present invention relates to a composition comprising an aqueous dispersion of an associative thickener having a hydrophobic portion with a calculated log P in the range of from 2.7 to 4.8; and composite particles comprising phosphorus acid functionalized polymer particles adsorbed to the surfaces of TiOparticles. The composition of the present invention provides formulators with flexibility in their use of low and mid shear rate thickeners to balance paint performance properties.

A stable aqueous dispersion including certain composite particles and a method for forming the stable aqueous dispersion is provided. The composite particles include a pigment particle, the pigment particle having disposed thereon a certain water-soluble polymer including copolymerized carboxylic acid monomer and N-containing monomer and the pigment particle bearing the water-soluble polymer having disposed on it a plurality of water-insoluble polymer particles. Also provided is a dry coating formed from the aqueous dispersion.

Aqueous dispersion of composite particles

The present invention is a composition comprising a) a stable aqueous dispersion of polymer particles functionalized with structural units of a phosphorus acid monomer or a salt thereof and; b) a dispersion of pigment particles stabilized by an adsorbing water-soluble dispersant functionalized with structural units of a sulfonic acid monomer or a salt thereof. The composition of the present invention is useful in providing excellent storage stability for pigmented paints formulated with the sulfonic acid functionalized dispersant described herein.

Pigmented coating composition with a sulfonic acid functionalized dispersant and a phosphorus acid functionalized binder

The present invention is a composition comprising a) a stable aqueous dispersion of polymer particles functionalized with structural units of itaconic acid or a salt thereof and; b) a water-soluble polymer functionalized with structural units of a sulfonic acid monomer or a salt thereof as well as a method comprising mixing the stable aqueous dispersion of the itaconic acid functionalized polymer particles with the sulfonic acid functionalized polymer, and TiO. The composition of the present invention is useful a coatings formulation that provides surprisingly good hiding.

The present invention is a composition comprising a) a stable aqueous dispersion of polymer particles functionalized with structural units of a phosphorus acid monomer or a salt thereof and; b) a water-soluble polymer functionalized with structural units of a sulfonic acid monomer or a salt thereof as well as a method comprising mixing the stable aqueous dispersion of the phosphorus acid functionalized polymer particles with the sulfonic acid functionalized polymer, and TiO. The composition of the present invention is useful as a coatings formulation that provides improved hiding over phosphorus acid functionalized binders that do not include the water-soluble polymer. Alternatively, the same hiding benefit is seen at lower phosphorus acid concentration when the sulfonic acid functionalized polymer is present.

The present invention relates to a composition which comprises a stable aqueous dispersion of discrete polymer particles and a water-soluble dispersant adsorbed onto the surfaces of pigment particles, wherein the polymer particles comprise structural units of a sulfonic acid monomer or a salt thereof. The present invention addresses a need in the art by providing a way to improve the hiding efficiency of compositions containing pigment such as TiOand associative rheology modifiers.

The present invention relates to a composition comprising a water-soluble dispersant comprising structural units of a sulfonic acid monomer or a salt thereof and a co-monomer. The dispersant of the present invention addresses a need in the art by providing a way to improve the hiding efficiency of coatings compositions.
