A tether includes a length of rope with a primary loop at a midpoint for connection to a rope wrench, a pair of secondary loops remote from the primary loop, and a generally stiff but partially flexible rope cover between the primary and secondary loops, the rope cover being pre-curved along its length, the tether also including a tail-portion of the rope between the secondary loops and the rope cover, providing unrestricted 360° flexibility for the secondary loops, the rope cover sufficiently rigid to permit the handle end of the rope wrench to be pushed or pulled by hand and the rope cover retaining its curve to minimise the risk of a user's hand interfering with a hitch cord, and the tail portion of the tether is sufficiently flexible to withstand side-loads.

Disclosed herein is a method for producing a calibrated pseudo-CT image of at least part of a patient for radiation treatment planning. The method comprises obtaining radiation intensity data indicative of attenuation properties of tissues within the patient and calibrating a first pseudo-CT image of at least part of the patient using the radiation intensity data to produce the calibrated pseudo-CT image.

Pseudo-CT image generation

Devices, systems and techniques are used for cancer treatment. An example control device may be configured to be communicatively coupled to a radiation source of a radiotherapy device and a position sensor of the radiotherapy device. The example control device may be used to calculate, for a sliding window of a radiotherapy treatment, a positional error between: a measured target position signal determined from a series of images and sampled at the acquisition times of the images, and an estimated target position signal. The example control device may generate a computer-executable instruction configured to alter the radiotherapy treatment in response to the positional error violating a threshold.

Monitoring of system latency errors in radiotherapy for cancer treatment

A radiotherapy device, a method and a computer readable medium are disclosed. The radiotherapy device includes a radiation source and a controller. The radiation source is configured to apply radiation to a subject. The controller is configured to determine an overlap between a defined volume of the subject and an isodose surface and to instruct the radiation source to halt application of the radiation based on the determination.

The present invention provides a combined radiotherapy and MRI system in which an imaging coil is mounted on a mechanical arm. The position of the imaging coil is thus known and in embodiments can be controlled to prevent collisions with the patient and unfavourable interactions between the imaging coil and the radiation beam.

Radiotherapy apparatus comprises a source of radiation mounted on a chassis, the chassis being rotatable about a rotation axis and the source being adapted to emit a beam of radiation along a beam axis that intersects with the rotation axis; a patient support, moveable along a translation axis; a set of magnetic coils located on either side of the beam, for establishing a magnetic field at the point of intersection, spaced from that point along a first direction; the translation axis, the rotation axis, and the first direction being substantially parallel; and further comprising a multi-leaf collimator fixed in its orientation with respect to the source of radiation, the multi-leaf collimator comprising a plurality of elongate leaves disposed with their longitudinal directions substantially aligned with the first direction and movable in that direction between a withdrawn position in which the leaf lies outside the beam.

A hitch-minding pulley comprising at least one pulley sheave rotatably fixed between the arms of a split yoke, the arms being swivelable about the rotational axis of the or each pulley sheave to allow access for a pulley engaging climbing rope, the body of the yoke being split into two parts, each body part having a respective yoke arm extending therefrom, the body parts having multiple corresponding pairs of apertures for collectively receiving, in use, a plurality of carabiners, wherein at least one of the pairs of apertures is a curved slot, the outer curvature of which being generally oriented inward towards the or each pulley sheave.

The valve of an active breathing control (ABC) device can be driven by the output of the navigator channel of the MRI scanner, rather than by inference from a measured breath flow rate. Where the MRI scanner is integrated with a radiotherapy device, the MRI data can be used to trigger the enforced breath-hold by the ABC, and the radiotherapy delivered while the ABC valve is shut. If the MRI data pertains to the actual position of the tumor, then the ABC device will (in effect) hold the tumor at a precise and reproducible point for treatment.

A method of aligning the radiation beam in a radiotherapy system comprising a source for producing a beam of radiation and an imaging device for imaging from the beam, both mounted to be rotatable about an axis, a fiducial phantom between the source and imaging device, the method comprising: rotating the beam and imaging device in a trajectory about the axis while obtaining images of the fiducial phantom from a plurality of different angles, at least one image including a feature of the imaging apparatus, adjusting the trajectory of the source relative to that feature to position the isocenter substantially in the center of the volume, determining from each image of the fiducial phantom the position of the source at the rotational position the image was obtained, and calculating the center of rotation of the positions of the source to define the isocenter of the system.

A zipwire trolley having a plurality of zipwire engaging rollers, a swivelable brake block assembly adjacent to one of the rollers, the brake block having a zipwire-engaging cam by which the roller can be at least partially lifted off the zipwire when the trolley is moving in a rearward direction, the cam having a pair of tapered sidewalls tending to pinch respectively opposite sides of the upper part of the zipwire as the brake block progressively rotates when the trolley is moving in a rearward direction, thereby preventing or inhibiting further rearward movement of the trolley.

A load-hauling device includes a pair of karabiners, each having an array of pulleys, a pulley rope fixed at one end to one of the karabiners below its respective pulley array, to anchor that end of the rope, the pulley rope passing sequentially between the pulleys of each pulley array to provide a mechanical advantage at the free end of the pulley rope when pulled, a rotatable locking cam mounted between a cam yoke fixed around an end pulley of one of the pulley arrays, wherein the cam includes a cam spring to bias the cam to engage with the rope and permit movement of the rope in one direction while preventing movement of the rope in the other direction, the cam including an integral trigger and locking mechanism to selectively disengage the cam from the rope and allow the device to release a load carried thereby.

A radiotherapy system comprises a patient support, moveable along a translation axis, an imaging apparatus, comprising a first magnetic coil and a second magnetic coil, the first and second magnetic coils having a common central axis parallel to the translation axis, and being displaced from one another along the central axis to form a gap therebetween, the imaging apparatus being configured to obtain an image of a patient on the patient support, a source of radiation mounted on a chassis, the chassis being rotatable about the central axis and the source being adapted to emit a beam of radiation through the gap along a beam axis that intersects with the central axis, a multi-leaf collimator comprising a plurality of elongate leaves movable between at least a withdrawn position in which the leaf lies outside the beam, and an extended position in which the leaf projects across the beam, and a radiation detector mounted to the chassis opposite the source, the radiation detector having a plurality of detector elements aligned with the elongate leaves when projected onto an isocentric plane.
