Technologies and concepts are described herein for authoring a database query through the modification of a view of the data to be returned by the query. A user interface is provided for authoring a database query through the modification of a view of the data to be returned by the query that includes a view showing the results of a database query. A user interface is also provided for modifying the view to define the results of the query. As the view is modified, a query definition is generated which, when executed against the database, will return the results of the database query shown in the view. When the desired results are shown in the view, the query definition can be saved and run against the database to perform the database query.

This document describes tools capable of validating and enabling validation of a package's structure. To do so, constraint grammar is provided that is capable of enabling a person to build a set of machine-readable constraints for a package's structure. Based on this set of constraints, a package validator module may accurately and automatically validate that a package's structure meets these constraints.

Reusable component data persistence using markup languages may be provided. A file including data associated with a reusable software component may be opened. Next, it may be determined if the file includes a persistence element comprising a dataset. The dataset may contain the data associated with the reusable software component. The data associated with the reusable software component may be described in the markup language and may reference a sub-element in a binary format. In addition, if the file includes the persistence element comprising the dataset, saving the data associated with the reusable software component to the dataset may be performed or loading the data associated with the reusable software component from the dataset may be performed.
