A method and system for triggering RF reconfiguration of wireless communication system. RSRP-SINR pairs determined respectively for locations in a region of interest are mapped to predicted MOS of voice communication per location, using a prediction engine trained based on actual correlated measurements of RSRP, SINR, and MOS. Locations having threshold low MOS and threshold low RSRP but not threshold low SINR are identified and clustered to identify an area where coverage strength should be increased in an effort to help improve voice-call quality. And locations having threshold low MOS and threshold low SINR but not threshold low RSRP are identified and clustered to identify an area where interference should be reduced in an effort to help improve voice-call quality. An engineering trouble ticket or other signal could then be generated to trigger associated network reconfiguration.

Method and system for triggering reconfiguration of a wireless communication system

Devices, systems, and methods for scheduling resources in a wireless network are configured to perform operations including identifying one or more resources that are available for low-priority transmissions from an internet-of-things (IoT) device, determining that the available resources are non-contiguous, rescheduling scheduled resources until the available resources are contiguous, and scheduling the low-priority transmissions using the available resources.

Scheduling low-priority transmissions

Wireless communication devices have antennas, and the antennas have earth-orientations. The wireless devices exchange network signaling with a wireless access node over the antennas. Some of network signaling indicates Device-to-Device (D2D) communication times and frequencies. The wireless communication devices exchange device signaling with each other over the antennas using the D2D communication times and frequencies. Some of the device signaling indicates the earth orientations for the antennas. The wireless communication devices select a subset of the antennas based on the earth orientations. The wireless communication devices exchange user data with each other over the selected subset of antennas using the D2D communication times and frequencies.

Multi-antenna control in wireless user devices

Systems, methods, and devices for communicating with a wireless network using multiple transceivers

A battery-powered wireless communication device has internal antennas. In the wireless communication device, transceiver circuitry wirelessly receives external antenna data that indicates on/off status, reserve battery power, and geometric earth-orientation for the individual antennas in a different wireless communication device. Baseband circuitry determines internal antenna data that indicates the on/off status, reserve battery power, and geometric earth-orientation for the internal antennas. The baseband circuitry executes a user application that generates and consumes user data. The baseband circuitry selects a set of the internal antennas to serve the user application based on the internal antenna data and the external antenna data. The transceiver circuitry wirelessly exchanges the user data over the selected set of the internal antennas.

Systems and methods are provided for improving uplink coverage in a wireless communication network. A first correlated array and a second correlate array each comprise a plurality of antenna elements. Each correlated array has an inter-element spacing of one wavelength of a signal for which the array is configured to receive. The first and second correlated arrays are interleaved such that one-half of a wavelength of a signal for which at least one of the correlated arrays is configured to receive separates adjacent elements of the first and second correlated arrays. Signals received by each correlated array are combined using statistical signal processing techniques to create combined signals that may be provided to the wireless communication network. Combining uplink signals from at least two interleaved uncorrelated arrays may increase the effective spacing of each array without sacrificing base station space or throughput.

A system for selecting a number of transmitting ports in an antenna at an access node includes an access node configured to deploy a first radio air interface to provide wireless services to wireless devices. The access node includes an antenna having ports and configured to communicate data with wireless devices through the ports and the first radio air interface. The access node also includes a processor configured to determine a trigger for dynamically selecting a number of transmitting ports in the antenna based on data received from the wireless devices relating to changes in levels of signals received at the wireless devices. The processor is also configured to estimate an amount of change based on the data relating to the changes. The processor is further configured to select a number of transmitting ports in the antenna based on the estimated amount of change.

Systems and methods for dynamically selecting a number of transmitting ports in an antenna at an access node

Devices, systems, and methods to reduce interference in heterogeneous networks having a plurality of access nodes, such as combinations of macro cells, micro cells, pico cells, femto cells, etc. are disclosed. Interference caused in sectors of two or more access nodes that face each other is minimized by dividing a total number of resource blocks into resource block sets that are uniquely numbered and allocated across each sector of each access node. The allocation is rotated based on a different time stamp or a different starting number, or may be a random sequence of sets per access node. These independent allocations for each access node generally distribute the interference across the system, and provide better interference reduction, resulting in an increase in system capacity per sector of each cell.

Interference mitigation in heterogeneous networks

A computing system will detect when a UE engaged in a voice call hands over from a lower frequency coverage area to a higher frequency coverage area where it is raining, and the computing system will responsively take action to help improve the UE's communication quality, in an effort to help minimize the extent to which voice call quality will degrade as a result of the transition to the higher frequency where it is raining. In particular, per the disclosure, the computing system could respond to this scenario by causing the target base station to use a more robust wireless transmission mode than the source base station was using to serve the UE.

In systems and methods of managing frequency band selection for a wireless device, a first signal level of a first frequency band and a second signal level of a second frequency band received at a wireless device are monitored, wherein the first frequency band comprises a lower frequency band than the second frequency band. A first signal level difference is determined between the first signal level and the second signal level, and the wireless device is instructed to communicate with the access node over the second frequency band when the first signal level difference meets a first signal level difference criteria based on a decrease of the second signal level.

Systems and methods of managing frequency band selection

Systems and methods for offloading traffic in a wireless communication system are provided. It can be determined at a network node that a performance parameter of an access node meets a performance threshold. A profile of a wireless device in communication with the access node can be determined where the profile comprises an acceptable offloading condition. A plurality of offloading mechanisms can be identified based on the performance parameter and the acceptable offloading condition. An estimated change in the performance parameter can be determined for each combination of one of the plurality of offloading mechanisms and the acceptable offloading condition. An offloading mechanism can be selected based on the estimated change in the performance parameter and the acceptable offloading condition. The wireless device can be instructed to establish communication with the wireless communication system using the selected offloading mechanism.

Method of offloading traffic in a wireless communication network

In systems and methods of managing wireless communication link resources, a static overhead load, a data traffic load, and a signaling load are determined of a wireless communication link between an access node and at least one wireless device. A wireless communication link load is calculated based on the static overhead load, the data traffic load, and the signaling load, and a load control process is performed when the wireless communication link load meets a load criteria.
