A shaped charge for use in a well perforating tool includes a jet blocker disposed in an apex of a parabolic or cone-shaped liner. The jet blocker limits the velocity and/or length of a jet that forms upon discharging an explosive in the shaped charge. The jet blocker may include an inert cast-cure type of material such as an epoxy or a flowable plastic that can be readily inserted into an existing shaped charge to fill an external concavity in the liner to any desired height. The height and material selected for the jet blocker determines the degree to which the penetration achieved by the shaped charge is limited, and thus, determines which targeted annulus in the wellbore may be penetrated in operation.

The disclosed embodiments include a perforating gun assembly. The perforating gun assembly includes a housing and at least one perforating charge disposed within the housing. Additionally, the perforating gun assembly includes a detonating cord disposed within the housing and ballistically coupled to the at least one perforating charge. Also included in the perforating gun assembly is a detonator assembly disposed in line or adjacent to the detonating cord. The detonator assembly includes a detonator, a ballistic interrupt, an actuator to remove the ballistic interrupt from a line of fire of the detonator, and a detonator control board to control the actuator and firing of the detonator.

Detonator assembly for wellbore perforator

A single-trip method and system for perforating casing allows displacement of a heavier completion fluid from the perforation zone by a lighter formation-compatible treatment fluid without the need for an extended rat hole or repositioning the working string. The perforating system includes bridge subs located above and below a perforating gun. The bridge subs bypass treatment fluid around the gun through one or more conduits located along the exterior of the gun into a discharge flow port located immediately below the lower bridge sub. The system may be hydrodynamically designed to maintain efficient fluid displacement characteristics of the discharge flow port. The external conduits are positioned to not interfere with perforation operations and may include parallel conjoined tubes. The perforating system may be lowered to a perforation position in the wellbore, and treatment fluid pumped through the discharge flow port to displace completion fluid prior to perforation operations.

Perforating gun system and method

A perforating gun assembly for use in a wellbore includes a carrier body and a charge holder disposed within the carrier body. One or more shaped charges are supported by the carrier body and are operably coupled to a detonator for igniting a highly explosive material within the each of the shaped charges. At least one solid propellant tablet is also disposed within the carrier body and is operably coupled to the detonator to ignite and burn immediately after detonation of the shaped charges. The solid propellant tablet burns or is consumed in such a manner to effectively mitigate or control the dynamic underbalance created by the free volume within the carrier body. Burning of the solid propellant tablet may increase the pressure within the carrier body to a level lower than a hydrostatic pressure around the carrier body in the wellbore such that a dynamic underbalance is maintained.

A system and a method for underground gasification comprising a downhole ignition device. The downhole ignition device may comprise a connection housing at a first end of the downhole ignition device. The connection housing may comprise an igniter and a first fire mix. The downhole ignition device may further comprise a body coupled to the connection housing. The body may comprise pyrotechnic modules arranged in series and additional first fire mix. A cap may be disposed at a second end of the connection housing. Additionally, the downhole ignition device may comprise a supply line and a recovery system. A method for igniting an underground energy source may comprise positioning a downhole ignition device adjacent an underground energy source in a wellbore, igniting a first fire mix in the downhole ignition device, and igniting a series of pyrotechnic modules arranged in the downhole ignition device.

Example apparatus, methods, and systems described for cutting tubulars in a downhole environment. In an example apparatus, energetic cutters are housed within a carrier. In some embodiments, the carrier is a cylindrical, tubular member. Radial energetic cutters are positioned at the ends of the carrier and linear energetic cutters are positioned between the radial energetic cutters. Initiation of the energetic cutters results in tubular fragments that fall downhole.
