A laser coating removal system includes a detector and a controller. The detector detects wavelengths associated with radiative emission of elements in laser-induced plasma generated by the laser coating removal. The controller generates concentration data based on the wavelengths, the concentration data indicating concentration of the elements in the laser-induced plasma, and notifies a user of the laser coating removal system in response to concentration of one of the elements in the laser-induced plasma being greater than or equal to a predetermined threshold.

Methods for separating and identifying nucleic acids utilize carbon coated magnetic beads. The method teaches that multivalent cations promote binding of single stranded nucleic acids to the beads and that the single stranded nucleic acids can be released with the addition of chelating agents that bind the multivalent cations such as EDTA. The method further teaches that fragile single stranded nucleic acids, such as RNA, can be stored on the surface of the beads. Lastly, the method also teaches that by iteratively adding complimentary DNA oligos, single stranded nucleic acids can be quantified or individually isolated using the carbon coated magnetic beads.

Disclosed herein are systems, methods, and apparatuses for manufacturing highly isotropic magnetic nanoparticles. In particular, manufacturing of spherical and amorphous particles suspended in a solvent by irradiating alloy targets submerged in a solvent using nanosecond-scale laser pulses is disclosed. The absence of shape and crystalline anisotropy in the particles yields a colloidal suspension with excellent soft magnetic properties which can be used to improve the performance of various medical diagnostic devices and consumer electronics.
