A surgical buttress for use in a surgical stapling apparatus is provided and includes an elongate rectangular body portion defining a width; a neck portion integrally formed with and extending from a distal end of the body portion, the neck portion defining a width; a head portion integrally formed with and connected to a distal end of the neck portion, the head portion defining a width; and a tail portion integrally formed with and extending from a proximal end of the body portion, the tail portion defining a width. The width of the tail portion is less than the width of the body portion.

Staple line reinforcement for anvil and cartridge

A surgical access attachment for use with a surgical access device is disclosed. The surgical access attachment includes a ring and an access portion assembly. The ring is configured to engage a proximal portion of a surgical access device. The access portion assembly includes at least one flexible tab having an engagement structure. The engagement structure is configured to selectively engage the ring. The access portion assembly is configured to retain a seal. The access portion assembly is configured to disengage from the ring in response to a predetermined amount of force exerted on one flexible tab of the at least one flexible tab.

Attachments for use with a surgical access device

A surgical access assembly for a surgical instrument and/or a surgeon's hand, the assembly including a housing, such as a wound retractor, and a seal body mounted to the housing. The seal body may have a pleated configuration when viewed in cross-section. The seal body may have a first surface and a second surface, the first surface having a plurality of radially-extending first channels and the second surface having a plurality of radially-extending second channels, the plurality of first channels being offset from the plurality of second channels. The seal body may define a substantially centrally disposed opening for reception of a hand/arm or instrument. In addition, the seal body may define one or more additional openings for simultaneous reception of an instrument and a hand.

Pleated seal for surgical hand or instrument access

A loading unit for use with a surgical stapling apparatus is provided and includes a tool assembly having a cartridge assembly and an anvil assembly that are movable in relation to one another; a surgical buttress releasably secured to a tissue contacting surface of the anvil assembly and/or the cartridge assembly, wherein each surgical buttress is secured to the anvil assembly and/or the cartridge assembly by at least one anchor; a release assembly associated with the anvil assembly and/or the cartridge assembly; and a drive assembly slidably translatable through the tool assembly between proximal and distal positions, wherein the drive assembly actuates the release assembly to thereby release the anchor to free the surgical buttress from the anvil assembly and/or the cartridge assembly.

Surgical stapling apparatus

A loading unit for use with a surgical stapling apparatus is provided and includes: a tool assembly having a cartridge assembly and an anvil assembly that are movable in relation to one another; a surgical buttress releasably secured to a tissue contacting surface of the anvil assembly and/or the cartridge assembly, wherein the surgical buttress secured to the anvil assembly is secured by at least one anchor; and a drive assembly slidably translatable through the tool assembly between proximal and distal positions. The anvil assembly has pairs of side recesses, at least one of which is a keyhole-shaped, or has an enlarged head portion.
