A lensed antenna system is provided. The lensed antenna system include a first column of radiating elements having a first longitudinal axis and a first azimuth single, and, optionally, a second column of radiating elements having a second longitudinal axis and a second azimuth angle, and a radio frequency lens. The radio frequency lens has a third longitudinal axis. The radio frequency lens is disposed such that the longitudinal axes of the first and second columns of radiating elements are aligned with the longitudinal axis of the radio frequency lens, and such that the azimuth angels of the beams produced by the columns of radiating elements are directed at the radio frequency lens. The multiple beam antenna system further includes a radome housing the columns of radiating elements and the radio frequency lens. There may be more or fewer than two columns of radiating elements.

Lensed base station antennas

Phased array antennas include a plurality of radiating elements and a plurality of RF lenses that are generally aligned along a first vertical axis. Each radiating element is associated with a respective one of the RF lenses, and each radiating element is tilted with respect to the first vertical axis.

Lensed antennas for use in cellular and other communications systems

Systems and methods for high efficiency power conversion are provided. In one embodiment, a high efficiency electric power converter circuit comprises: an electric power converter that provides a first electric power output; a storage device that provides a second electric power output; and a power arbitrating switch that receives the first and second electric power outputs and selectively supplies a third electric power output using at least one of the first electric power output and the second electric power output. The switch is configured with a first sensor to measure a charge level of the device and with a second sensor to measure a power demand drawn from the third electric power output. The power arbitrating switch switches the third electric power output between being supplied from the first electric power output and being supplied from the second electric power output based on the power demand and the charge level.

An antenna comprising a plurality of sub-arrays and methods and structure for restoring performance after a transceiver failure is provided. Each sub-array may include a power divider/combiner network, a first radiating element coupled to a first port of the power divider/combiner network, a second radiating element coupled to a second port of the power divider/combiner network, and a transceiver coupled to a third port of the power divider/combiner network. An adjustable power supply may be coupled to each transceiver, the adjustable power supply having current monitors to detect at least one failure state of a transceiver, and a power compensation mode to increase absolute power to a transceiver in a non-failed state. The adjustable power supply provides a first voltage in normal operation and a second voltage, where the second voltage is higher than the first voltage in power compensation mode.

Active antenna sub-array structures

A lensed antenna system is provided. The lensed antenna system includes a first column of radiating elements having a first longitudinal axis and a first azimuth angle, and, optionally, a second column of radiating elements having a second longitudinal axis and a second azimuth angle, and a radio frequency lens. The radio frequency lens has a third longitudinal axis. The radio frequency lens is disposed such that the longitudinal axes of the first and second columns of radiating elements are aligned with the longitudinal axis of the radio frequency lens, and such that the azimuth angles of the beams produced by the columns of radiating elements are directed at the radio frequency lens. The multiple beam antenna system further includes a radome housing the columns of radiating elements and the radio frequency lens. There may be more or fewer than two columns of radiating elements.

An antenna may include a volume polarization current radiator and a feed network. The volume polarization current radiator, includes a dielectric solid (such as a dielectric strip), and a plurality of closely-spaced excitation elements (), each excitation element () being configured to induce a volume polarization current distribution in the dielectric solid proximate to the excitation element when a voltage is applied to the excitation element. The feed network is coupled to the volume polarization current radiator. The feed network also includes a plurality of passive power divider elements () and a plurality of passive delay elements (d-d) coupling the first port () and the plurality of second ports (), the plurality of power divider elements () and the plurality of phase delay elements (d-d) being configured such that a radio-frequency signal that is applied to the first port () experiences a progressive change of phase as it is coupled to the plurality of second ports () so as to cause the volume polarization current distribution to propagate along the dielectric solid.

A method for tilting radio beams in a mobile communications network using the antenna array is also disclosed. Method and apparatus for tilting beams in a mobile communications network

An antenna having a passive feed network in one band, and an active radio network in an adjacent band, is provided. The antenna includes radiating elements arranged in an array dimensioned to transmit and receive RF signals. The antenna includes diplexers having a first port, a second port and a third port. The first port of each diplexer coupled to at least one radiating element. The diplexer has a first filter coupling the first port to the second port and a second filter coupling the first port to the third port. A passive feed network includes a phase shifter, which is coupled to an input transmission line and a plurality of output transmission lines. Each of the output transmission lines may be coupled to one of the second ports of one of the diplexers. An active radio is coupled to each of the third ports of the plurality of diplexers.

Antenna having active and passive feed networks

An antenna includes one or more radiofrequency radiating elements for forming a radiofrequency beam and a point-to-point antenna for forming a point-to-point beam. The point-to-point element may be fixed with respect to the antenna's radome. Adjustment of the point-to-point element orientation may be achieved using the antenna mount to adjust the orientation of the point-to-point element and radome together.
