System, method and program for identifying a subset of a multiplicity of source networks. The subset including one or more source networks which have sent messages to one of a plurality of destination locations having a same IP address. For each of the multiplicity of source networks, a determination is made whether there are fewer intervening hops from the source network to the one destination location than from the source network to other of the plurality of destination locations. If so, the source network is included in the subset. If not, the source network is not included in the subset. One application of the present invention is to identify a source of a denial of service attack. After the subset is identified, filters can be sequentially applied to block messages from respective source networks in the subset to determine which source network in the subset is sending the messages.

Identifying source of malicious network messages

An approach for augmenting a current instant message (IM) session is presented. The subjects of the first and second posts of electronic bulletin boards are determined to be similar to the text dialog of the IM session. The first post is determined to be from a first user who previously collaborated with a participant of the text dialog. The second post is determined to be from a second user who has not collaborated with the participant. Based in part on the first post being from the first user who previously collaborated with the participant and the second post being from the second user who has not collaborated with the participant, a first hyperlink to the first post is displayed relative to a second hyperlink to the second post to indicate the first post is ranked higher in relevance to the current IM session than the second post.

Augmenting a real-time collaboration with ranked electronic bulletin board posts

A method, system and program product for collecting web metric data is disclosed. The method includes inserting a script at the top of each web page to be metered, sending a web page request to a web server for a web page, loading the web page while executing the script inserted within the web page for collecting web usage data without substantially increasing web page load time. The method further includes establishing an asynchronous connection to a metric server chosen for sending the web usage data collected and transmitting to the metric server the web usage data collected as part of a record request using a method such that the record request is not cached at an intermediate proxy. The method further includes contacting an alternate metric server if the metric server chosen is not available or cannot record the web usage data.

Method, system and program product for collecting web metric data

An approach for augmenting a real-time collaboration is presented. Content of a real-time collaboration is received. A key word which is included in the content or a theme of the content is determined. A match between the key word or theme of the real-time collaboration content and a theme of post(s) in a threaded discussion forum is determined. Based on the match, a display, on a monitor used for the real-time collaboration, of link(s) to the post(s) is initiated.

A system and method for searching a bytestream or other string in a case insensitive manner. In a preferred embodiment, the present invention includes an ASCII tree that associated both upper and lower case letters of an incoming header key (or other symbols) with nodes. When enough nodes are gathered, a target word is found.

System, method and program for transferring same files from a first computer to a plurality of second computers. Respective measures of file transfer rates from the first computer to the second computers are determined. Based on the respective measures of file transfer rates from the first computer to the second computers, determinations are made as to respective numbers of sockets within the first computer to transfer the files to the second computers to tend to equalize the time required to transfer the files from the first computer to each of the second computers. The files are transferred to each of the second computers using the determined number of sockets, wherein for each of the second computers where the number of sockets is greater than one, the files are divided between the number of sockets for transfer to the respective second computer. A greater number of sockets are used for those of the second computers for which the first computer has slower file transfer rates than for those of the second computers for which the first computer has greater file transfer rates.

System, method and program to synchronize file transmission in a distributed computer system

System, process and program product for optimizing a computer program during run time. During run time, a determination is made whether the computer program calls a method which includes a conditional evaluation of a variable which is fixed and the evaluation of the fixed variable does not result in anything productive being accomplished except to return to execution of the computer program. If so, the call to the method which includes the conditional evaluation is deleted from the computer program for subsequent iterations of the computer program. Consequently, the subsequent execution of the computer program will yield a same result as if the conditional evaluation was executed. If the evaluation of the fixed variable results in something productive being accomplished, the call to the method which includes the conditional evaluation is not deleted from the subsequent execution of the computer program.

System, method and program product to optimize code during run time

System, method and program for making same data available from different file systems to clients. The data is transferred to each of the file systems. Respective time periods required to rename the data in the file systems from a first name to a second name are estimated. The data with the first name is not available to the clients. The data with the second name is available to the clients. Renaming of the data in the file systems from the first name to the second name is scheduled. The scheduling is based at least in part on the estimated respective time periods to rename the data in the file systems. Preferably, the scheduling is timed to result in completion of the renaming of the data in all of the file systems at approximately a same time. Preferably, one of the time periods to rename the data in the file systems is based at least in part on a time period to transfer the data to a server associated with the file system and a wait time within the server to schedule the renaming.

System, method and program to synchronize files in distributed computer system

Session state affinity is maintained in a workload balancing system that includes a hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP) routing server and a plurality of application servers. The application servers maintain backup session state information for a first session to a first server of the plurality of application servers at fewer than all of the plurality of application servers, detect the unavailability of the first application server at an application server of the plurality of application servers other than the first application and determine a second server that continues the first session. An identification of the second server and the first session is sent from an application server of the plurality of application servers to a HTTP routing server responsive to detecting the unavailability of the first server. The identification of the second server and the first session is received at the HTTP routing server and communications associated with the first session are routed from the HTTP routing server to the second server responsive to receiving the identification of the second server so that backup session state information maintained at the second server is used to continue the first session from the first server at the second server.

Extensible URI-pattern-based servlet request processing frameworks process and respond to requests for resources sent over a network by client programs to application programs in multi-tiered data processing systems. An extension processor component, an improved web container; and an improved web application architecture form the framework. The extension processor component includes one or more extension processor factories, each of which generates a single type of extension processor to handle specific application components. Each extension processor is adapted to respond to a request having a declared pattern. The extension processor factory resides within the web container and provides a list of patterns for which it is responsible. The extension factory also instantiates an extension processor to respond to a request having a pattern that matches that extension processor's declared pattern. The improved web application includes a request mapper adapted to route a request having a particular pattern to the appropriate extension processor.

Extensible URI-pattern-based servlet request processing framework

A system for automatically segmenting the compilation of a large Java project under a controller node to a grid of slave nodes so as to reduce build time. A build tree scanner at the controller node sizes the number of files in the project and the length of each source file. Each slave node has a complete and synchronized set of all compilable units in the project. The controller node automatically segments the source files into a number of filesets commensurate with the number and resource capacities of slave nodes available for the build, allocates the filesets to the slave nodes, and automatically generates build filesets from a master dependency tree built from dependency trees constructed by each slave node. The build sets are then equitably allocated to the slave nodes. Then the targets are reaped and placed on the controller node, which performs post-compilation tasks.

System and method for grid-based distribution of Java project compilation

A method, system, and computer readable code for improving stress testing of Web servers. An altered form of client cache is used, enabling more realistic and representative client requests to be issued during the testing process. This altered cache format is referred to herein as a &ldquo;meta-cache&rdquo;, and is defined as storing a minimal subset of the information that would typically be cached from a response. This minimal subset is that which enables constructing conditional HyperText Transfer Protocol (HTTP) GET requests. By providing a capability for realistically simulating conditional requests as well as unconditional requests, the stress applied to the server is more representative of the actual traffic load it will experience. By minimizing the amount of information kept in the meta-cache, this realistic simulation is possible without the overhead of a full client cache, and also allows more browsers to be simulated from a particular workstation.
