A standoff connection structure which is suitable for connecting a standoff connector and a high-voltage electronic box. The standoff connection structure includes at least one anti-rotation feature, and also includes various sealing features to provide a leak-tight connection between a standoff connector and high voltage electronic box, even after exposure to thermal shock. The standoff connector also facilitates an electrical connection between a high voltage or high current component and the high voltage electronic box.

An electronics unit includes a housing, the housing having a base portion with a post member extending from the base portion. The post member has a through-hole defined through the post member. A printed circuit board is connected to the housing at a plurality of connection points. The printed circuit board includes one or more electric or electronic components disposed thereon and has an aperture. The post member is disposed through the aperture of the printed circuit board. A distal end portion of the post member is larger than a diameter of the aperture so as to fix the printed circuit board to the housing, forming one of the connection points. A seal member is disposed at least partly within the through-hole of the post member and forms a seal with the post member.

Electronics device having a plastic cover with a sealed center boss

A discrete electrical component is disclosed, including a component member having at least one lead; and a base member on which the component member is supported. The electrical component further includes at least one compliant pin member, each compliant pin member having a first end portion configured for press-fit engagement in a printed circuit board and a second end portion electrically connected to the at least one lead of the component member. The at least one compliant pin at least partly extends through or into the base member.

A harness connector for an electronics device is disclosed, the electronics device having a housing and a printed circuit board disposed in the housing, and the housing including an opening exposing electrical contacts of the printed circuit board. The harness connector includes a base member with a plurality of apertures defined therein, the base member directly attached to the housing and disposed over the opening, and a plurality electrical contacts electrically connected to the electrical contacts of the printed circuit board.

Headerless harness connection assembly and methods of constructing and utilizing same

An electronics device includes a housing having a through-hole disposed in a central portion of the housing. A printed circuit board is connected to the housing. The printed circuit board includes one or more electronic components disposed thereon. A plastic housing cover is connected to the housing and covers the printed circuit board. The housing cover includes a centrally-located post member integral to the housing. The post member extends through the through-hole of the housing and engages with the housing. The engagement between the housing and the housing cover prevents outward deflection of the housing cover.

An electronics unit includes a housing, the housing having a base portion with a post member extending from the base portion. The post member has a through-hole defined through the post member. A printed circuit board is connected to the housing at a plurality of connection points. The printed circuit board includes one or more electric or electronic components disposed thereon and has an aperture. The post member is disposed through the aperture of the printed circuit board. A distal end portion of the post member is larger than a diameter of the aperture so as to fix the printed circuit board to the housing, forming one of the connection points.

An engine control unit (ECU) includes a housing; a cover sealingly engaged with the housing so as to define an interior space; a circuit board disposed in the interior space; and a fastener coupling together the circuit board, the housing and the cover, the fastener serving to limit an amount of deflection of the housing relative to the housing. The circuit board and the cover are constructed and arranged to define an airflow path from an outer surface of the cover to the interior space. The airflow path allows for a leak test to be performed on the ECU, wherein upon an affirmative determination that results of the leak test shows no leaks in the ECU, sealant seals the airflow path.

An electronics housing includes a first enclosure portion defining an internal cavity, a second enclosure portion sealing the internal cavity, at least one vent positioned in one of the first enclosure portion and the second enclosure portion, the vent comprising a through hole protruding from an exterior edge of the vent to an interior edge of the vent, a malleable sealing member disposed in the vent, and a rigid retaining member disposed in the vent.

Electronics module enclosure

A fastener is provided for fastening a printed circuit and an electronics housing. The fastener has a lead-in feature extending from the fastener and at least one pin extending the fastener. An intermediate standoff portion may be disposed between the lead-in feature and the pin. An electronics housing may be provided that includes the fastener, an electronics housing structure, and a printed circuit board (PCB) disposed adjacent to the electronics housing structure. The lead-in feature may be press fit into an aperture in the housing structure aperture, and the pin may be press fit into an aperture in the PCB. A method of forming an engine control unit is also provided. The method includes providing a PCB, press fitting a fastener to the PCB, dispensing thermal interface material onto a housing structure, pressing the PCB onto the thermal interface material, and press fitting the fastener into the housing structure.

Compliant PCB-to-housing fastener

An engine control unit (ECU) includes a housing, a cover sealingly engaged with the housing, a circuit board disposed in the housing and support structure disposed in the housing and associated with an inner surface of the cover. At least one fastener couples both the support structure and the circuit board to the housing. An adhesive bonds at least portions of the support structure to portions of the inner surface of the cover. The support structure is constructed and arranged to limit deflection of the cover when internal pressure increase in the ECU.

Method and structure for limiting cover deflection in an ECU when exposed to high altitude environments

An electronics module includes a module housing having a base structure and a plurality of side walls. A module cover contacts the side walls and is connected to the module housing via at least one fastener. The module housing includes at least one fastener boss for receiving the at least one fastener. Each of the fastener bosses includes a fastener hole protruding partially into the fastener boss and a vent hole connecting the fastener hole to an opening on a surface of the fastener boss exterior to the module housing, and a sealant disposed in the fastener boss, thereby preventing external air from entering the electronics module through a fastener connection.

Electronics module

An apparatus and method for an adhesive assembly for securing a printed circuit board to a substrate. The assembly provides a printing tool with a plurality of apertures defined therethrough. Preferably, the apertures have a top opening with a larger area than a bottom opening. The printing tool is placed upon one of the printed circuit board and/or substrate, and a liquid adhesive is printed onto the printing tool. The liquid adhesive forms islands of adhesive within each aperture. Removing the printing tool deforms each island to form a raised edge at a periphery of each island. A temporary liner can be placed on the raised edges to protect the adhesive until the printed circuit board can be assembled with the substrate.

Adhesive assembly for a circuit board

An electronic control unit having a flexible circuit board assembly is disclosed. The electronic control unit comprises a flexible circuit board with at least one layer having first and second portions separated by a bendable region. The electronic control unit further comprises a substantially rigid substrate having first and second portions separated by a bend region and inside and outside surfaces. The first and second portions of the circuit board are affixed to respective first and second portions of the substrate. The bend region has one of the group of a recess and aperture extending outwardly from the inside surface of the substrate with the one of the group of the recess and aperture sized to accept the bendable region of the circuit board.

Electronic control unit

A flexible circuit board assembly and method includes a rigid circuit board having a first portion and a second portion separated by a bending region. A plurality of grooves are cut into the bending region. The grooves are cut substantially parallel to an axis about which the bending region is bent. Preferably, the grooves are located on an inside bending radius of the circuit board, but can be located on the outside radius or both.
