In one example, an analyte detection package includes a substrate, surface-enhanced luminescence (SEL) structures extending from the substrate and a low wettability housing. The SEL structures have a first wettability for a given liquid. The low wettability housing extends from the substrate to form a chamber between the housing of the substrate about the SEL structures to receive an analyte containing solution. The housing has an inner surface adjacent the chamber, wherein the inner surface has a second wettability for the given liquid less than the first wettability.

Analyte detection package housing

According to an example, a system for managing a fluid condition in a pipe includes a controller to receive temperatures of the pipe detected by the temperature sensor over a period of time. The controller may determine, based upon the temperatures of the pipe over the period of time, a temperature profile of the pipe and may determine that the temperature profile of the pipe indicates that a freezing onset event has occurred. The freezing onset event may include a transition from a drop in temperature to an increase in temperature, in which the temperature during the transition is below a freezing point temperature of a fluid contained in the pipe. The controller may further trigger at least one of an alarm and an activation of a first freezing prevention device in response to the determination that the freezing onset event has occurred.

Structure and method of manufacture

A method for forming a fluidic ejection device is described. The method includes depositing a first layer on a silicon wafer, the first layer including a first photoresist, and exposing, at a first energy level, a portion of the first photoresist. The method also includes depositing a second layer on the first layer, the second layer including a second photoresist that is more sensitive to light than the first photoresist, and exposing, at a second energy level, a portion of the second photoresist. The second energy level is less than the first energy level. The method also includes developing unexposed portions of the first photoresist and the second photoresist to form an enclosed firing chamber and a nozzle.

A dielectric layer includes a reflow via. The reflow via is formed by reflow of the dielectric layer away from a raised feature. An interconnect is in contact with the raised feature through the reflow via.

Controlling dimensions of nanowires includes lithographically forming a trench in a layer of a polymer resin with a width less than one micrometer where the polymer resin has a thickness less than one micrometer and is deposited over an electrically conductive substrate, depositing a nanowire material within the trench to form a nanowire, and obtaining the nanowire from the trench with a removal mechanism.

A structure for a chemical sensing device, the structure comprising at least one electrically conductive element located in, and protruding from, at least one recess. A method of manufacturing the structure includes: (a) providing a template comprising at least one recess having a recess depth; (b) providing an electrically conductive material in the at least one recess; and (c) removing part of the template to decrease the recess depth of the at least one recess, thereby forming said protruding at least one electrically conductive element.

A method of making templated circuitry employs a template system that includes a template of an insulator material on a carrier having a conductive surface. The template includes multiple levels and multiple regions, wherein a first level exposes the conductive surface of the carrier. A first metal is electrochemically deposited on the conductive surface in first regions of the first level. A circuit material is deposited to cover the first metal. The template is etched until a second level of the template exposes the conductive surface in second regions on opposite sides of the first regions. A second metal is electrochemically deposited on the conductive surface in the second regions. The template of deposited materials is transferred from the carrier to a substrate.

A method of patterning a carbon nanotube layer includes providing a substrate comprising a carbon nanotube layer. A laser beam is generated. The laser beam is directed onto a first surface of the carbon nanotube layer. Relative movement between the laser beam and the first surface is caused, thereby forming at least one cavity feature on the first surface.

A method for fabrication of passive electronic components includes disposing a sacrificial layer on a carrier and forming a curable resin layer on top of the sacrificial layer and patterning the curable resin to form a cured resin template having multiple pattern levels. A metal material is deposited into the first pattern level to form a first structure. A dielectric material is then formed on exposed portions of the first structure. A nonselective subtractive process is used to expose the sacrificial layer in a bottom of the second pattern level and metal material is deposited into the second pattern level and built up to include a portion which crosses over the dielectric material.

A method of making an inkjet printhead comprises forming a first patterned layeron a surface of a first substrate, forming a second patterned layeron a surface of a second substrate, bonding the first and second layers in intimate face-to-face contact, and removing the second substratefrom the second patterned layer. The first and second patterned layerstogether define at least one ink ejection chamber having at least one ink ejection nozzle.

Method of making an inkjet printhead

To deposit carbon nanotubes onto a substrate, an at least partially porous film is prepared so that a surface of the film has a layer of carbon nanotubes thereon. The film is positioned in relation to a surface of the substrate such that the surface of the film having the layer of carbon nanotubes is brought into contact with the surface of the substrate. Pressure is applied to the film to attach the film, including the layer of carbon nanotubes, to the surface of the substrate.
