The present device relates to a sensor capable of detecting changes in the electromagnetic field it generates when in proximity to either conductive or nonconductive materials. This occurs by way of oscillating a transmit coil with an electro motive force at a resonant frequency thus creating an electromagnetic field. The magnetic field passes through a target of either conductive or nonconductive material and is then intercepted by a receive coil which likewise oscillates at a resonant frequency, which when in proximity to the transmit coil and transmit coils resonant frequency produces an enhanced signal by way of the interaction of the respective resonant frequencies and receive coil output.

A clamping means support for use with orbital tube welding that resists the outward flexure of abutting tubes is provided. The invention generally is comprised of a left clasp and a right clasp, being congruent. The right clasp is generally square cornered J-shaped, having a mounting leg, and an engaging leg, an engagement notch formed between the long leg and the short leg. The right clasp is fastened upright, at the mounting leg, to a right top side of a clamping means. The left clasp is fastened invertible, at the mounting leg, to a left top side of a clamping means. Wherein, in the closed position, the engagement leg of the right clasp interlocks within the engagement notch of the left clasp, effectively preventing outward movement of the right top side and the left top side of the clamping means, relative one to the other.

Method for tracking characteristics in joined assemblies

A purge gas introduction system for an orbital tube welding setup is provided, configured to inject high purity inert purge gas to the interior volume of a tube or tubular component. An o-ring is interposed between an annular base and an annular ring, their junction forming an annular o-ring groove, each part forming one sidewall, with the o-ring fully recessed within the groove, protecting the o-ring during the insertion and removal of a tube. The annular base and an annular ring are configured to receive a tube terminus. The sidewalls of the o-ring groove are divergent one to the other, wherein as the annular ring is drawn towards the annular base, the o-ring is forced partially out of the groove, forming a substantially leak tight seal between the tube and the o-ring. A purge gas from an external source is transmitted to the annular base through a purge connector, then, in turn, introduced to the interior volume of the tube.

A method for the orbital welding of tubular elements held in abutment comprising the steps of striking an arc at a strike point with an orbital welder between an electrode and a seam formed by a first tubular element and a second tubular element, held in abutment within a fixture; initiating an orbit of said electrode around an abutment of said first tubular element and said second tubular element; adjusting the current of said arc in a pulsed manner from a maximum current to a minimum current at a set frequency, combination of said maximum current and said minimum current forming an average current; decreasing said average current in a generally continuous manner as said orbit of said electrode progresses from said strike point, the rate of decrease of said maximum current having a generally inverse relationship to the rate of increase in temperature experienced by said tubular elements.

Method for orbital welding using a pulsed current

The present invention is generally comprised of a tube adaptor, a chamber, a chamber pressure sensor, a calibration pressure sensor, an iris valve, an iris valve drive means, and a control and data processing means. In a calibration mode, the calibration pressure sensor measures the purge pressure at the abutment of two flow elements, while concurrently measuring the corresponding pressure at the chamber pressure sensor. In the welding mode, the calibration pressure sensor is removed, and the corresponding pressure within the chamber is maintained throughout the welding process to affect the geometry of the molten weld bead.

A sinusoidal structural member having a dual component flange is provided. In the preferred embodiment, the flange (both upper and lower) is comprised of at least two components. These two components can be produced by dividing the flange lengthwise; where the division plane is substantially parallel to the plane of the web, when observing a standard flange-web relationship; and the geometry of the division border substantially matches the sinusoidal geometry of the web. The two resulting flange components substantially complement one another; wherein the sine peak of one component fits within the sine valley of its corresponding component, leaving a gap sufficient to accommodate the thickness of the web to be interposed. The sinusoidal web, substantially matching the division pattern of the flange components, is compressively sandwiched between the flange components, with sufficient compression to bring the sinusoidal web within dimensional compliance. The flange components are fused to the sinusoidal web during the compression process. The resulting structural member simpler to manufacture, while still providing the strength to weight ratio required in many applications.

A workholder to hold a workpiece, especially an end fitting, in accurate axial and angular orientation for orbital welding. It can optionally provide protection for sensitive surfaces on a fitting during the welding and handling processes.

A tool for assembling a union comprising first and second nuts for joining two tubing segments is disclosed. The tool includes a first and a second leg pivotally connected for scissor-like movement, each leg having an anti-torque engagement member associated with an anti-torque formation on a respective one of the nuts and tubing segments.

An orbital welder for welding tubes includes a welding head and a hinged clamp arrangement which grasps the tubes and holds them in abutment for welding. The clamp is constructed to discharge shielding gas into the welding region. By supplying gas only from the clamp, a high purity weld is achieved.

A fluid transmission linear actuator having a chamber with a cylindrical boundary and a central axis. An output plunger has a head in the boundary. A neck is formed on the chamber with a passage entering it. An input plunger is axially movable in the neck. The input plunger and the ouput plunger are coaxial. A transmission capsule has a continuous skin forming a first reentrant fold between the output plunger and the boundary, and a second reentrant fold between the neck and the input plunger. A substantially incompressible fluid fills the capsule so that movement of either plunger results in proportional movement of the other plunger. This input plunger can be formed with an exponential surface so that its movement can result in a non-linear response, or in some circumstances can provide a linear output in response to a non-linear input.

A safety valve for attachment to a gas cylinder. It has a body rigidly attachable to the port of a gas cylinder, with an inlet and an outlet. A valve between the inlet and outlet is held open by a fragile stem that is maintained in tension. When sufficient bending forces are exerted on the safety valve the stem breaks, its parts move apart from one another, and the safety valve closes.

A compression union for joining two tubing segments together in a sealing relationship. Each segment has a head and a compression shoulder, and a sealing face. A first and second nut are threadedly joined and compress the segments together. The segments pass through respective nuts. A thrust cap is adapted to be firmly clamped. It includes an axially-extending tongue fitted into a respective axial spline, so that tightening the nut together exerts only axial force on the sealing faces, and the thrust cap prevents counter-rotation of the tubing segments relative to one another.
