A communication device comprises: a communication interface; a display screen; a first processor configured to power up according to a first power-up time, the first processor for implementing radio functionality associated with the communication interface; and a second processor configured to power up according to a second power-up time longer than the first power-up time, the second processor for implementing extended functionality as compared to the first processor. The first processor, after the first power-up time: controls the display screen to provide a first GUI displaying communication interface-related information and a power-up status of the second processor; and after the second power-up time, hand off control of the display screen to the second processor. The second processor, after being provided with control of the display screen: controls the display screen to provide a second GUI displaying the communication interface-related information and information associated with the extended functionality.

Device and method for display screen control using two processors

Systems and methods for supplying power from a multi-cell battery to a single-cell power management integrated circuit. One implementation of the system includes a voltage converter circuit, a control circuit, and a signal buffer circuit. The voltage converter circuit is configured to scale a positive battery terminal voltage signal received from the multi-cell battery to generate a scaled voltage signal. The control circuit is configured to select one of the scaled voltage signal or a cell voltage signal received from the multi-cell battery. The control circuit is also configured to output a high-impedance single-cell power signal including the selected one of the scaled voltage signal or the cell voltage signal. The signal buffer circuit is configured to buffer the high-impedance single-cell power signal to generate a low-impedance single-cell power signal for a voltage sense pin of the single-cell power management integrated circuit.

A portable communication system () maintains mission critical functionality. An accessory () and a handset () are tethered and interoperate such that the accessory operates as the primary controlling device and the handset operates as a secondary device. The accessory () contains a main applications processor () that handles non-mission critical functions. The accessory further contains a mission critical processor () for handling mission critical functions of transmit and receive audio as well as PTT and emergency. In response to a failure of the mission critical processor (), the mission critical functions are maintained by handing over the mission critical functions to the non-controlling device in a manner transparent to the user. The handover is triggered in response to status changes of the mission critical processor or as a result of battery depletion. Audio paths are re-routed through backup paths () negating reliance on processors of the accessory ().
