An underwater data capture and transmission system has a base configured to sink in water, at least one sensor configured to capture data while submerged in water, a processing unit configured to receive data collected by the sensor, and a variable buoy. The variable buoy has a ballast system configured to adjust a depth of the variable buoy in the water, and a communication device configured to transmit data to a remote communications device. The system further has at least one tether connecting at least the base, the processing unit, and the variable buoy.

Autonomous water column profilers are deployed over an area and each independently samples attributes in its water column to provide a three dimensional array of data points. The profilers are negatively buoyant and autonomously assume positive buoyancy; for example, by jettisoning a ballast weight, preferably collecting and storing measurements at programmed times or depths when descending and again when ascending. The devices can be recovered for accessing onboard memories or a wireless communications system can be employed for uploading data to a transponder. The profilers can be deployed from marine vessels, aircraft, or remotely operated vehicles and are advantageous for monitoring oil well leaks or spills, assessing dispersant programs when ameliorating released oil, for sensing natural seeps, and similar applications.

Autonomous water column profiler

A buoyant apparatus and method of use buoyancy to offset the weight of a load during immersion of the load in a fluid medium such as a payload manipulated by a cable and crane or by a remotely operated undersea vehicle. Buoyancy modules that can be of different size and shape have elongated supports that are attachable via complementary connection fixtures at the ends. The attached supports form a skeleton of the array. The connection fixtures are axially resiliently compressible and maintain the buoyancy modules in abutment notwithstanding shrinkage or expansion of the buoyant material due to hydrostatic pressure that increases with depth.

Modular flotation system

An apparatus comprises at least one cutting jet configured to inject a fluid into a first layer of soil below a surface layer of underwater soil in a first region. At least one soil extractor is configured to remove at least a portion of the injected fluid and a portion of the first layer of soil in the first region. A mixing manifold is provided for mixing the removed portion of the injected fluid and the removed portion of the first layer of soil. A discharge is provided for depositing the mixed fluid and soil over the surface layer of underwater soil.

Method and apparatus for remediating organic loading of marine sediments

A method of deploying a communications cable below the surface of the body of water includes loading the cable around a reel within a housing, lowering the housing and the reel into the body of water, retrieving the connector of the cable from the housing, moving the connector and the attached cable to a position away from the housing, and connecting the connector to a subsea communications connection. An umbilical line is extended over a crane structure extending over the side of an offshore structure. The umbilical line is electronically connected to the communications cable. A remotely operated vehicle or a diver will intercept the connector and deliver the connector to the subsea communications connection.

Method and apparatus for deploying a communications cable below the surface of a body of water

Apparatus for locally disturbing an underwater bed to enable the burial of an elongate member (,) comprises a mounting (,), resilient means (,) such as brush filaments coupled to the mounting, and means (,) for moving the resilient means with respect to the mounting. The resilient means is constructed such that on moving the mounting along the line of the elongate member while moving the resilient means with respect to the mounting, the underwater bed is disturbed by the resilient means to enable the elongate member to be buried.
