A container that has a laminate that has a substrate with a gloss layer and a matte layer is provided. A portion of the laminate is located at a seal portion of the container, and a plurality of cavities extend through the gloss layer but do not extend through any amount of the matte layer at the portion of the laminate that is located at the seal portion. The plurality of cavities function to reduce the severity of pinholes at the seal portion.

Container having blind holes for pinhole resistance and associated method

A paperboard laminate useful for making gable top juice cartons is provided. The laminate provides for a high melting point polymer such as a semi-crystalline nylon to be applied directly to a board surface as an oxygen barrier layer. An anti-scalping layer is also provided by a polar polymer which is connected by a tie layer to an outermost skin coat layer. Positioned between the skin coat layer and the oxygen barrier layer are one or more bulk layers of polyolefins. The resulting laminate affords a juice carton which has good oxygen barrier and Vitamin C retention properties, is resistant to overactivation during heat sealing, has minimal scalping of d-limonene and essential oils, and has excellent bulge resistance.

Nylon barrier board structure

A heat sealable barrier layer for food and beverage cartons is provided, the barrier layer including an additive material which reduces the amount of essential oil scalping from citrus products. Additionally, a carton coating layer and process is provided for reducing a coefficient of friction of stacked carton blanks. An additional embodiment of the invention provides for a paperboard substrate having reduced water vapor transmission rates, the reduction in water vapor transmission rates being attributed to one or multiple extruded layers containing an effective amount of an inorganic additive.

Flavor barrier

The present invention provides a polymer blend suitable for use as a film or a coating, the polymer blend including from 1 to 99% by weight of a metallocene-produced VLDPE polymer having a density less than 0.916 g/cm , and from 1 to 99% by weight of an LDPE polymer having a density of from 0.916 to 0.928 g/cm wherein the sum of (a) and (b) is 100%. The VLDPE polymer can have a melt index of from 6 to 15 dg/min, or from 9 to 12 dg/min. The present invention further provides polymeric films extrusion cast from such polymer blends, and articles having a flexible substrate and a polymeric film extrusion-coated on the substrate
