In certain aspects, an apparatus includes a first gating circuit having an input and an output, wherein the input of the first gating circuit is configured to receive a first clock signal. The apparatus also includes a delay circuit having an input and an output, wherein the input of the delay circuit is coupled to the output of the first gating circuit. The apparatus further includes a control circuit configured to receive an enable signal, detect a logic state at the output of the delay circuit, and cause the first gating circuit to pass or gate the first clock signal based on the enable signal and the detected logic state at the output of the delay circuit.

Anti-aging clock source multiplexing

A dual-edge aware clock divider configured to generate an output clock based on the input clock and a ratio of an integer M over an integer N is disclosed herein. The frequency of the output clock is based on a frequency of the input clock multiplied by the ratio (M/N), wherein M may be set to a range up to N. The output clock includes M pulses within a sequence time window having a length of N periods of the input clock. The output clock includes one or more rising edges that are substantially time aligned with one or more rising edges and one or more falling edges of the input clock, respectively. The dual-edge aware clock divider is configured to generate the output clock based on inverted and non-inverted portions of the input clock. A hybrid clock divider including the dual-edge and single-edge aware techniques is provided.

Dual-edge aware clock divider

A system is provided that controls the clocking of a processor depending upon its usage of execution units. As the processor transitions from a default mode of operation using a default number of the execution units to an increased load mode of operation using an increased number of the execution units, a current drawn by the processor from a power rail remains substantially unchanged.

Processor load step balancing

A clock signal generator including a fractional clock divider and a frequency ramp control circuit. The fractional clock divider is configured to generate an output clock signal with a frequency being a divider ratio multiplied by a frequency of an input clock signal. The frequency ramp control circuit is configured to provide the fractional clock divider a set of divider ratios so that the frequency of the output clock signal is ramped in steps from a current frequency to a target frequency. The frequency ramp control circuit is configured to produce frequency change steps each having substantially the same duration. The frequency ramp control circuit is also configured to provide the set of divider ratios such as a first portion of the frequency ramp is performed using coarse frequency changes and a second portion of the ramp is performed using at least one fine frequency change.

Systems and methods for level-shifting multiplexing are described herein. In one embodiment, a method for level-shifting multiplexing comprises selecting one of a plurality of inputs based on one or more select signals, and pulling down one of first and second nodes based on a logic state of the selected one of the plurality of inputs. The method also comprises pulling up the first node if the second node is pulled down, and pulling up the second node if the first node is pulled down.

Various aspects of dynamic power reduction in a bus communication architecture are described herein as embodied in an XBAR architecture that provides flexible gating of multiple paths and repeater circuitry to allow any of a number of selected clients to communicate with any of the other interconnected clients while reducing dynamic power consumption by disabling unused repeater circuitry in the bus communication architecture.

Method and apparatus for dynamic power saving with flexible gating in a cross-bar architecture

In a particular embodiment, a single step increment calculation module is responsive to a first ramp control value and a second ramp control value. The single step increment calculation module generates a single step frequency adjustment as an output. The generated single step frequency adjustment is applied to a system clock signal having a first frequency to change the system clock signal to a second clock signal having a second frequency. The first frequency is different from the second frequency and the system clock signal has a first duty cycle that is within a tolerance range of a second duty cycle of the second clock signal.

Clock divider system and method with incremental adjustment steps while controlling tolerance in clock duty cycle

In one embodiment, move buses utilized in presently known VLIW processors are eliminated and replaced with a busing scheme which results in transfer of operands from each register file bank to any data path block while also reducing the total bus width and total power consumption associated with transport of operands from register file banks to data path blocks. According to this busing scheme, the speed of VLIW processor is also improved since the need for one clock cycle to move operands from one register file bank to another is overcome. In another embodiment, a scheduling restriction is used to eliminate the need for the presently required write back buses used by various data path blocks. In yet another embodiment, a scheduling restriction is imposed which results in a reduction of the number of ports, a reduction in the width of buses, and a reduction of power consumption.
