A gravure printing system comprising a gravure cylinder having a first plurality of discrete cells disposed upon an outer surface thereof is disclosed. Each cell of said first plurality of discrete cells has a nominal diameter and is capable of receiving a fluid that is a first combination of at least two primary fluids. The fluid is fluidically displaceable through a discrete channel having a single entry point at said first position and a single exit point into a first cell of said first plurality of discrete cells. The outer surface has a metal plating disposed thereon. The metal plating reduces the nominal diameter of each cell of the first plurality of discrete cells.

Apparatus for applying indicia on web substrates

An apparatus for the application of atomized fluid to a web material having a first surface and a second surface opposed thereto is disclosed. The apparatus is provided with a fluid source disposed adjacent to the first surface of the web material and a receipt plenum disposed adjacent to the second surface of the web material. The receipt plenum provides a source of negative pressure to the second surface of the web material. A fluid disposed from the fluid source contacts the first surface of the web material and is caused to traverse therethrough by the source of negative pressure. A portion of the fluid contacting the first surface of the web material is contained by the receipt plenum.

A method for delivering a High Internal Phase Emulsion to a substrate. The method includes providing a rotating roll, The rotating roll has a central longitudinal axis, wherein the rotating roll rotates about the central longitudinal axis, an exterior surface defining an interior region and substantially surrounding the central longitudinal axis, and a vascular network configured for transporting the one or more fluids in a predetermined path from the interior region to the exterior surface of the rotating roll. The vascular network can have at least one main artery, at least one capillary and a plurality of fluid exits on the exterior surface. At least one capillary is attached to a main artery and is in fluid communication with at least two fluid exits through a substantially radial fluid path to form a tree.

Customizable apparatus and method for printing fluids

A method for printing 7 or more inks on a substrate. The method can include the steps of: providing a substrate; providing 7 or more inks; and providing a print system, the print system comprising 6 or less rotating rolls. Each of the 6 or less rotating rolls can be disposed in an operative relationship to transport at least one of the 7 or more inks to a vascular network in one of 6 or less rotating rolls. The method includes contacting the substrate with the at least one of the 7 or more inks.

Fluid enters the vascular network at the inlet and exits through substantially radial fluid paths to form a first tree.
