A lane hazard mitigation algorithm includes a sensor for detecting a first hazard in a host road lane and a second hazard in an adjacent road lane, a processor for determining a host lane mitigation including a host lane speed reduction in response to the first hazard and an adjacent lane mitigation including an adjacent lane speed reduction in response to the second hazard, the processor being further configured to generate a lane change control signal in response to the adjacent lane speed reduction being less than the host lane speed reduction and to generate a vehicle speed reduction control signal in response to the host lane speed reduction being less than the adjacent lane speed reduction, and a vehicle controller for controlling a host vehicle in response to the lane change control signal and the vehicle speed reduction control signal.

Lane hazard mitigation strategy in advanced driver assistance system

A cruise control method includes determining that a host vehicle is traveling downhill and determining an axle torque command to maintain a predetermined headway distance from the host vehicle to a lead vehicle while the host vehicle is traveling downhill. The method further includes determining that a brake of the host vehicle is actuated to provide the axle torque command previously determined and comparing the axle torque command with a brake exit threshold to determine whether the axle torque command is greater than the brake exit threshold. Further, the method includes comparing the headway distance between the host vehicle and the lead vehicle with a headway exit threshold to determine whether the headway distance between the host vehicle and the lead vehicle is greater than the headway exit threshold. Also, the method includes commanding the brake of the host vehicle to disengage to terminate braking.

System and method for downhill headway control for cruise control

A method includes obtaining information about a lead vehicle. The lead vehicle is traveling directly ahead of the host vehicle and the information includes velocity of the lead vehicle and a gap g between the host vehicle and the lead vehicle. Based on detecting a change in the velocity of the lead vehicle in the information, a corresponding desired acceleration is computed for the host vehicle using perceived acceleration of the lead vehicle to maintain the gap g within a specified range of gap values. The perceived acceleration of the lead vehicle is based on the change in the velocity indicated by the information. Based on a check of parameters involved in the computing the corresponding desired acceleration, a modified desired acceleration is computed for the host vehicle using a lag for the lead vehicle that results in an intended acceleration of the lead vehicle differing from the perceived acceleration.
