A compression latch assembly (CLA) includes a latch subassembly that is movably mounted to a housing and includes a frame, a pawl pivotably connected to the frame and biased to move from a closed position to an open position, a trigger pivotably connected to the frame and movable between a home position and a release position, and a release arm pivotably connected to the frame. The release arm has a cam follower that is positioned to engage a cam on the housing. A motor unit is configured for moving the latch subassembly between extended and retracted positions. In the course of moving from the retracted position to the extended position, the cam is configured to urge the cam follower to rotate the trigger from the home position to the release position, which causes the trigger to release the pawl, which causes the pawl to move to the open position.

Compression latch

An electronic access system and method utilizes a modular latch system and method. The modular latch system and method include a reader module and latch module. The reader module includes a user interface with one or more readers or devices for receiving input from a user, and sending the input to a controller. The latch module is configured for mounting to a closure that provides access to the secure area. The latch module can be operated in a stand-alone mode while detached from the reader module. Alternatively, the latch module can be releasably engaged to the reader module and operated in an assembled mode. The modular system and method allow for engagement of the reader module to the latch module, disengagement of the reader module from the latch module, and engagement of an alternate reader module to the latch module for retrofitting the reader module with the alternate reader module.

Electronic access system and method for retrofitting an electronic access system

A latch with dual rotary magnets is particularly suited for releasably securing dual doors of a compartment in the closed position. Each rotary magnet holds in a closed position a magnetic insert attached to a respective door by magnetic attraction to secure both doors in the closed position relative to the compartment. Mechanical hook-like rotary pawls supplement the action of the magnets. In addition, the latch is provided with a safety feature that prevents the latch from opening in the event that the vehicle in which the latch is installed is involved in a collision.

Magnetic latch mechanism

A latch with dual rotary magnets is disclosed. The latch is particularly suited for releasably securing dual doors of a compartment in the closed position. Each rotary magnet helps secure in a closed position a respective door that is provided with a magnetic insert. Hook-like rotary pawls that rotate with the magnets provide for mechanical securing of the doors in the closed position. The latch is provided with a safety feature that makes the latch resistant to opening in the event that the vehicle in which the latch is installed is involved in a collision.

A rotary pawl latch has a lock bar that engages with the pawl when the pawl is latched and that moves toward the center of the pawl to release the pawl for unlatching. This lock bar never completely becomes disengaged from the envelope of the pawl. There are cutouts in the pawl which allow the pawl to rotate as the lock bar is actuated.

Rotary pawl latch

A load floor latch for securing a first closure member to a second closure member. The latch is opened by actuating a handle and a pawl supported on the housing is pivoted away from a keeper on the second closure member by the actuation of the pawl by the handle which is biased to the closed position. The pawl is biased to the closed position. The pawl projects through an opening on the latch housing and also has a pawl projection which is guided during pivoting of the pawl by a portion of the exterior surface of the housing of the latch.
