A method of vision testing includes providing a display, presenting a first chart of optotypes wherein each line progressively decreases in size or in contrast of the optotype relative to a background. The method includes having a patient identify and read the optotypes, noting which line of optotypes at which the patient can correctly identify all of the optotypes in the first chart, confirming that the patient has correctly identified all of the optotypes in the line of the first chart, and then presenting a second chart of optotypes wherein each line of the second chart progressively decreases in one of size or in contrast of the optotype relative to a background. The size or contrast of the noted line of optotypes from the first chart that the patient correctly identified is presented as either a first line of optotypes or a second line of optotypes on the second chart.

Vision testing system and method

A monitor/display is used to display a vision test. A patient is spaced a predetermined distance from the monitor/display during the testing procedure, and individual, multiple LED housings are equally spaced about a center point of the monitor/display to direct light toward the patient during at least a portion of the test procedure. The light emanating from the individual housings is a diffuse, unfocused light to simulate glare, and the intensity of the light may be selectively altered. Conducting vision testing under glare conditions determines if there is any reduction or fall off in the patient's vision under such circumstances and provides an indication of whether the patient may require cataract surgery or has another ocular problem. An assembly allows an existing vision testing system to be easily modified to provide glare light testing capabilities.

Conducting acuity testing under glare conditions determines if there is any reduction or fall off in the patient's acuity vision under such circumstances and provides an indication of whether the patient may require cataract surgery or has another ocular problem.

Glare assembly for computerized eye test display

An automated ophthalmic system is disclosed that is utilized to examine the eyes of a subject. A refraction system measures a refractive error of each eye and identifies a lens to correct the refractive error detected. A display presents one or more of an optotype, a chart, a test and a function to the subject to ascertain the refractive error. An interface device receives a voltage signal from the refraction system, converts the voltage signal into one or more ASCII characters, and communicates the one or more ASCII characters to the display to present the one or more of an optotype, a chart, a test and a function.

Ophthalmic examination system interface device

An automated ophthalmic system is disclosed that is utilized to examine the eyes of a subject. A refraction system measures the refractive error of each eye and identifies a lens to correct the refractive error detected. A display presents one or more optotypes to the subject to ascertain the refractive error. An interface device receives a wireless signal from the refraction system, converts the wireless signal into one or more ASCII characters, and communicates the one or more ASCII characters to the display to present the one or more optotypes.
