A combination therapy for treating osteoarthritis is disclosed. The combination therapy includes the co-administration of a steroid and Zoledronic Acid. The coadministration of a steroid decreases the production of cytokines, and, therefore, decreases the pro-inflammatory effects of Zoledronic Acid. The co-administration of Zoledronic Acid with steroids treats osteoarthritis, and helps to prevent the onset of osteoarthritis in patients at risk for osteoarthritis.

Administration of Zoledronic Acid is complicated by what is described as 'post-dosing syndrome' (PDS) and osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ). Inflammation may be the cause of these side effects, which could be decreased by the co-administration of steroids. This application is a method of use patent for the co-administration of steroids (oral, IV, IM, rectal, or by inhalation) with Zoledronic Acid and a composition of matter patent for mixing Methyl Prednisolone with Zoledronic Acid for infusion.
