An electronic bingo gaming system enables the entertainment mechanisms in Class II gaming machines to mimic the look and feel of the Class III games on which those entertainment mechanisms are based. The system is constructed to minimize any wait times by players that commence a bingo game or join a bingo game already in progress. To create consistency in what players are hoping to see on their bingo cards, the bingo game may use a single interim prize pattern required to win an interim prize that is the same for all players.

An apparatus comprises a wheel and an indicator. The wheel includes a plurality of wedges and a linking element. The plurality of wedges bear respective awards, and the linking element is configured to link a subset of at least two wedges of the plurality of wedges. The indicator is configured to designate a wedge within the plurality of wedges. In response to the designated wedge being within the subset, a combination of the awards associated with the at least two wedges of the plurality of wedges are awarded.

A simulated musical interface associated with a gaming machine enhances player excitement and interaction with the gaming machine. In one embodiment, the simulated musical interface is associated with a game in which the player uses the interface to play a simulated instrument on a gaming machine to affect, or apparently affect, the outcome of the game. As the player plays the simulated instrument via the simulated musical interface, indicia or graphical representations may be generated for a game of chance on a display associated with the gaming machine.
