A method of polymerizing olefins with catalyst systems, such as, for example, a multimodal catalyst system, wherein the catalyst system is stored at a controlled temperature to minimize loss of catalyst system productivity.

Catalyst systems and polymerization processes

A system and method for olefin polymerization is provided. The method includes polymerizing one or more olefins within a reactor having one or more injection tubes in fluid communication therewith, at least one of the one or more injection tubes having two or more concentric flow paths; flowing a catalyst through a first flow concentric path of the injection tube into the reactor; flowing one or more monomers through a second concentric flow path of the injection tube into the reactor; measuring rate of heat removal within the reactor; and adjusting the one or more monomers flow through the injection tube in response to the rate of heat removal in the reactor.

Method for preventing catalyst agglomeration based on production rate changes

A method for preparing a spray dried catalyst and a low viscosity, low foam spray dried catalyst system for olefin polymerization are provided. In one aspect, the method includes preparing a catalyst system including one or more components selected from metallocenes, non-metallocenes, and activators, adding mineral oil to the catalyst system to form a slurry, and adding one or more liquid alkanes having three or more carbon atoms to the slurry in an amount sufficient to reduce foaming and viscosity of the slurry. In one aspect, the catalyst system includes one or more catalysts selected from metallocenes, non-metallocenes, and a combination thereof, wherein the catalyst system is spray dried. The system further includes mineral oil to form a slurry including a catalyst system, and one or more liquid alkanes having three or more carbon atoms in an amount sufficient to reduce foaming and viscosity of the slurry.

Catalyst compositions and methods, useful in polymerization processes, utilizing at least two metal compounds are disclosed. At least one of the metal compounds is a Group 15 containing metal compound and the other metal compound is preferably a bulky ligand metallocene-type catalyst. The invention also discloses a new polyolefin, generally polyethylene, particularly a multimodal polymer and more specifically, a bimodal polymer, and its use in various end-use applications such as film, molding and pipe.

This invention relates to a process to polymerize olefin(s) comprising combining a solution, slurry or solid comprising one or more bulky ligand metallocene catalyst compounds, an optional support, and or one or more activator(s) with a solution comprising one or more phenoxide catalyst compounds, and thereafter, introducing one or more olefin(s) and the combination into a polymerization reactor. This invention also relates to a polymer of ethylene wherein the polymer has a density of 0.910 to 0.930 g/cc, a melt index of 0.3 to 2.0 dg/min, and a 15 to 35 &#x3bc;m thick film of the polymer has a 45&#xb0; gloss of 60 or more, a haze of 7% or less, and a dart impact of 600 g or more.

Processes for transitioning between chrome-based and mixed polymerization catalysts

Preactivated unsupported catalyst compositions methods of using them are disclosed whereby the compositions have a concentration of preactivated catalyst of at least about 0.04 mmol of preactivated catalyst per liter of solution when using aliphatic or alicyclic hydrocarbon solvents, and a concentration of less than about 0.80 mmol/liter when using aromatic or halogen-substituted solvents. In the method, an unsupported catalyst precursor first is contacted with an activator, or co-catalyst, in a suitable reaction medium, and then the resulting mixture is contacted with additional solvent to form a preactivated unsupported olefin polymerization catalyst composition that can be fed to a gas phase polymerization reactor without plugging the catalyst injection nozzle. Combining the unsupported catalyst precursor, the co-catalyst and then adding additional solvent to provide such a composition prevents tube plugging, and provides a catalyst material that has high activity, avoids forming significant amounts of polymer agglomerates, and avoids reactor fouling.
