The present invention is directed to a bimodal polyethylene comprising ethylene derived units and units derived from at least one of a Cto Colefin; wherein the polyethylene has a density of from 0.940 to 0.970 g/cm; an I/Iof 80 or more; a residual Group 4 metal content of 2.0 ppm or less: a Mw/Mn of from 20 to 60; and wherein the polyethylene comprises a high molecular weight component and a low molecular weight component, the high molecular weight component present from 40 to 60 weight percent based on the total polyethylene, and wherein the bimodal polyethylene has a weight avenge molecular weight Mw of 180,000 a.m.u. or more.

Catalyst compositions and methods useful in polymerization processes utilizing at least two metal compounds are disclosed. At least one of the metal compounds is a Group 15 containing metal compound and the other metal compound is preferably a bulky ligand metallocene-type catalyst. The invention also discloses a new polyolefin, generally polyethylene, particularly a multimodal polymer and more specifically, a bimodal polymer, and its use in various end-use applications such as film, molding and pipe. Methods of polymerizing olefins in the gas phase using unsupported catalyst compositions are disclosed. At least one olefin monomer is polymerized in a gas phase reactor in the presence of an unsupported liquid catalyst composition whereby the method reduces reactor fouling by maintaining the partial pressure of the primary olefin monomer that is polymerized below about 240 psi. in the reactor. The invention is particularly useful for, but is not limited to polymerizing propylene or copolymerizing propylene with olefins having two or more carbon atoms. The method described herein produces a polymer product having controlled, uniform particle size, narrow molecular weight distribution, high bulk density and stereoregularity, and prevents and/or inhibits reactor fouling during catalyst delivery and during polymerization.

Preactivated unsupported catalysts are prepared by contacting an unsupported olefin polymerization catalyst precursor with an activator, or co-catalyst in a suitable reaction medium and then contacting the mixture with additional solvent to form a preactivated unsupported olefin polymerization catalyst composition. The preactivated unsupported olefin polymerization catalyst composition is useful in a method of polymerizing an olefin monomer by adding it, in solution or slurry, to a gas phase polymerization reactor together with one or more olefins to form a polymer, copolymer, terpolymer, or the like. The use of the preactivated unsupported olefin polymerizaiton catalysts compositions does not plug the catalyst injection nozzle or feed tube when feeding the solution to the gas phase reactor.
