A medical implant includes a body having a conical portion and adapted for implantation into a person's body. A plurality of threads formed around an exterior surface of the conical portion of the body are adapted to help secure the implant in place within the person's body.

Apparatus for attaching soft tissue to bone

A bone anchor for securing a suture to a bone comprising a head portion and a shaft. The head portion includes a flat head portion for impeding axial migration of the bone anchor into the bone and a dome portion having a tunnel for receiving a suture. The shaft secures the bone anchor to the bone. It extends from the head portion to a flat, distal end. The shaft includes a plurality of tine segments disposed in planes substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the bone anchor and a plurality of grooves extending along the shaft that divide each of the plurality of tine segments into a plurality of tines. Each of the plurality of tines has an upper surface substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the anchor, a frustroconical portion, and an arcuate junction defined by the intersection of the upper surface and the frustroconical portion. The angle of the arcuate junction for each of the plurality of tines at each of the tine segments increases along the length of the shaft from the head to the distal end.

A surgical bone screw having a head which has asymmetrical radii relative to the central axis of the screw. The cross-section of the head is configured as a lobular shape having a constant radii along one hemisphere of the head, and smaller radii along the opposing hemisphere of the head, with the smallest radius existing approximately perpendicular to the midline of the head member. The asymmetry of the head minimizes surface area of the screw protruding above the bone surface.

Bone fastening device

A non-constrained total joint prosthetic replacement device for metatarso-phalangeal joint. A first component comprises a convex-bearing surface and a rearwardly projecting stem configured to be received in the resected metatarsal bony shaft, and a second component includes a concave-bearing surface and a stem configured to be received within the resected phalangeal bony shaft. A non-bearing intermediate land offsets the convex-bearing surface of the first component from the stem, allowing a full range of anatomical motion notwithstanding the presence of bony overgrowth.
