A communication apparatus comprises a communicating circuit, a connecting unit for connecting a telephone or the communicating circuit to a line, a disconnecting unit for disconnecting the telephone from the line, a call reception detection circuit, a detection circuit for detecting a hook state of the telephone, an output unit for outputting a signal indicating that the call generation limitation mode has been set, a display for displaying that the apparatus is in the call generation limitation mode, and a dial signal transmission unit. A call generation of an attached telephone can be limited with a simple construction and a call generation limiting function of the data communication apparatus can be certainly realized.

A communication system of this invention is constituted by a controller which accommodates a plurality of extensions connected to an office line and telephones, and includes a facsimile unit for performing facsimile communication with another communication apparatus through the office line, and a plurality of telephones connected to the extensions. The controller can inform an operation state during facsimile communication to the connecting telephone. The operation state of the facsimile unit can be recognized at the telephone. A data transmission apparatus includes a facsimile section for performing data transmission, at least one multifunction telephone set terminal for performing speech communication, a switching circuit for switching the facsimile section and the multifunction telephone set terminal, and a microcomputer for detecting whether transmission data is set in the facsimile section. The switching circuit switches a transmission line from the multifunction telephone set terminal to the facsimile section when the microcomputer detects that the transmission data is stored in the facsimile section while the multifunction telephone set terminal is engaged with the transmission line.
