In a multi-module system, information required for linked operation of a plurality of modules is stored in a communication manager as profiles written in a specific format. The modules operate by referring to these profiles, and update the profiles as appropriate. The modules thereafter operate based on the updated profiles, and appropriately updates the profiles. The communication manager thus enables the linked operation among the modules based on continuously updated profiles.

INTERACTIVE MULTI-MODULE SYSTEM HAVING A COMMUNICATION MANAGER FOR ACHIEVING LINKED OPERATION OF PLURALITY OF MODULES AND FOR DEFINING WHETHER AND HOW AN INDIVIDUAL MODULE CAN ACCESS A PARTICULAR FUNCTION

A map display apparatus displays a map of a desired district in accordance with stored map data. The apparatus includes a recording medium storing map data of a map to be displayed in a manner that the whole area of the map is divided into a plurality of districts and the map data are successively stored starting from the nearest district, a display district selecting device for selecting the desired map district to be displayed, a control unit for reading the map data of the selected district from the recording medium and generating a control signal for displaying the thus read map data, and a display responsive to the control signal to display the map of the selected district. The map data of each district includes duplicate map data of the boundary parts of the adjoining districts. Map data of adjacent districts are stored in adjacent memory locations. Thus, the map data of the desired district can be displayed quickly.

Map display apparatus storing data of physically adjacent map sections

An electronic map display system for use on a vehicle comprises a display unit for displaying one of a map or a menu of the names of a plurality of particular regions, a map data storage medium for storing map data on the particular regions and name information on the particular regions, a manual controller having a name retrieval key, a setting key, and cursor keys, and an electronic control unit for controlling the display on the display unit in response to instructions from the manual controller. Upon reception of an instruction produced by the name retrieval key of the manual controller, the electronic control unit reads the name information on the particular regions from the map data storage medium, displays the region names as the menu on the display unit, and selects one of the displayed region names through operation of the cursor keys. When the setting key is depressed, the electronic control unit reads map data related to the region name on the cursor position from the map data storage medium, and displays the map of the selected particular region on the display unit.

Electronic map display system for use on vehicle

In a map display system, map-forming data necessary for display of a display area and character data representing display areas are stored in a map data memory. A display area commander reads map-forming data indicating a specified display area out of the map data memory, and produces a display area instruction. A display character commander selects character data for a given point of the specified display area designated by the display area designation commander, and produces a display character instruction. On the basis of the display area instruction from the display area commander and the display character instruction from the display character commander, a map of the specified display area and characters in the specified display area are displayed on a display.

Map display system

An electronic map display system for use on a vehicle comprises a display unit for displaying one of a map or a menu of the names of a plurality of particular regions, a map data storage medium for storing map data on the particular regions and name information on the particular regions, a manual controller having a name retrieval key, a setting key, and cursor keys, and an electronic control unit for controlling the display on the display unit in response to instructions from the manual controller. Upon reception of an instruction produced by the name retrieval key of the manual controller, the electronic control unit reads the name information on the particular regions from the map data storage medium, displays the region names as the menu on the display unit, and selects one of the display region names through operation of the cursor keys. When the setting key is depressed, the electronic control unit reads map data related to the region name on the cursor position from the map data storage medium, and displays the map of the selected particular region on the display unit.

A guiding spot display apparatus displays a number of guiding spots for providing various guiding information on a road map. The apparatus includes a storage medium for storing a plurality of guiding spot data each being assigned a plurality of priorities and corresponding to one of a plurality of guiding classifications, a display selecting device for generating a display signal indicative of the classification of the guiding spots to be displayed, a control unit responsive to the selection signal to successively input from the storage medium the corresponding guiding spot data starting from the one having the highest priority and generate a display signal for displaying the data, and a display responsive to the display signal to display the selected guiding spots on the road map. Thus, the degree of the freedom in the display of guiding spots is improved and the apparatus is well suited for use in a wide range of guiding information application.

Guiding spot display apparatus

In an electronic map display system, predetermined linear display object data of all map data are stored in a first memory according to a predetermined coordinate system. Target point data other than the predetermined linear display object data are stored in a second memory in accordance with a relative coordinate system based on the predetermined linear objects. The data of the first memory are converted into display data of designated magnification rate by a first converter. The target point data of the second memory are converted into display data in accordance with a coordinate system based on the linear display objects by a second converter. A display signal is produced to display a map image in accordance with the data converted by the first and second data converters.

Electronic display system

A novel electronic map display system is disclosed for displaying a map on the basis of a map data stored. Various discontinuous points in each of predetermined areas included a map to be displayed are stored as structured data in the form of vectors. The discontinuous geographic data in each of the areas is stored as image pattern data. A selection signal is produced from a display selection unit for selecting an area to be displayed from the map. In accordance with the selection signal, a display signal is generated from the pattern data and the structured data corresponding to the area to be displayed. A map of the particular area is displayed on the basis of the display signal of a display control unit.

Electronic map display system

A map display apparatus displays a road map of a desired display district in accordance with stored map data. The apparatus includes a map data storing medium storing, in correspondence to a plurality of basic sections forming the whole area of the road map, a plurality of map information representing the road configurations in the basic sections and a plurality of name information representing the names of various parts in the basic sections, a display selecting device for selecting the desired display district from the whole area of the road map, a display control unit for generating a display signal in accordance with the map information group and the name information group of the basic sections contained in the selected display district, and a display responsive to the display signal to display the selected display district. Thus, when displaying the map of the selected district, it is only necessary to read and display the map information and name information of the basic sections belonging to the district.

A vehicle map display system includes a control unit to manually or automatically display a reduced or enlarged map, from a reduced or enlarged map data storage device in accordance with the separating distance between the present position of a vehicle and a destination, on the whole or part of a display area of a display device which is provided with a sub-display area.

In a travel guidance system for vehicles, a map data storage medium preliminarily stores administrative division name data and/or landmark data, and a control unit has the function of retrieving the name of an administrative division to which the present position of a vehicle belongs and/or a landmark in the vicinity of the present position in accordance with present position data and displaying the retrieved administrative division name and/or the retrieved landmark on a display.

Travel guidance system for vehicles

In a map display system for vehicles, spot coordinates are preliminarily stored which represent map forming spots and are provided with a coordinate origin of a specified spot, and display coordinates indicating map changing frames are also preliminarily stored. The display coordinate of the present position of the vehicle is compared with the display coordinate of a map changing frame. When the present position reaches the map changing frame, the spot coordinate of the present position is compared with the preliminarily stored spot coordinates so as to extract spots forming a new map centering the present position of the vehicle.

Map display system for vehicles

An engine control method and apparatus generally applicable to those control systems of the engine such as an ignition system, fuel injection system, etc., which are controlled to optimum operation in accordance with the engine operating conditions. A plurality of angular pulses are generated during each rotation of the engine and these pulses are counted. In response to each pulse, an angular interrupt request is generated and the interrupt is performed in response thereto. The angular interrupt routines are of the highest priority and are executed irrespective of the execution status of the central processing unit to control an electric device associated with the engine in accordance with control data calculated by the central processing unit. Program interrupt requests are generated during selected angular interrupt routines when the counted number of angular pulses reaches a predetermined value. Program interrupt routines of lower priority than the angular interrupt routines are then executed to calculate the control data for the electric device.

Computer based engine control with lower priority interrupt requests

An engine control method generally applicable to those control systems of the engine such as an ignition system, fuel injection system, etc., which are controlled to optimum operation in accordance with engine operating conditions. Angular pulses are generated each time the output shaft of the engine rotates a predetermined angular amount. These angular pulses are counted from the occurrence of a position pulse which is generated at a predetermined angular position of the output shaft of the engine. A central processor is employed to calculate a first angular position at which an electric device for the engine is to be controlled. The central processor also calculates a time interval between the first angular position and a second angular position at which one of the angular pulses is to be provided just before the first angular position. When the angular pulse counting reaches a value corresponding to the second angular position, fixed frequency clock pulses are then counted. When the calculated required time interval has passed as determined by counting the fixed frequency clock pulses, the electric device is controlled.

Engine control event timing employing both crank angle rotation and time

In an electronic ignition control apparatus having RAM to initially store first and second signals indicative of the starting and terminating points for calculation of a time necessary for rotation of a predetermined angle defined by integer times as large as a predetermined angular interval of an output shaft of an engine, a rotation time of the output shaft is calculated during rotation of an angle of the output shaft defined by the first and second signals from RAM to calculate an optimum spark advance angle in relation to the operating condition of the engine such that an angular position defined by integer times as large as the predetermined angular interval at the advance angle side of the calculated advance angle is determined to be stored in RAM as a third signal. Calculation of a time defined by the difference between the calculated advance angle and the angular position defined by the third signal is started upon arrival of the output shaft to the angular position defined by the third signal from RAM and completed to deenergize the ignition coil of the engine previously energized.
