A search system searches a storage where one electronic document or a plurality of electronic documents is/are stored for an electronic document that satisfies an entered search condition. The search system includes a first processor and a second processor. The first processor manages a feature relating to a color shade of the electronic document as an index of the electronic document and retrieves the electronic document that satisfies the search condition from the storage based on the index. The second processor reads an image of a document, converts a first image into a second image in accordance with designated setting including setting about the color shade, and has the second image stored in the storage as the electronic document. Managing a feature relating to a color shade of the electronic document includes registering the index based on first information on the first image and second information on the second image.

A device for detecting an amount of skew in a document placed on a plate is provided. The device includes: a scanner for scanning an area including an edge of the document; a detector for detecting a boundary point between the document and the plate; a portion for setting a boundary point group of interest including boundary points; a portion for setting a midpoint of an oblique line for approximating the edge of the document; a portion for setting, as the oblique line, a line which passes through the midpoint and slants to the main scanning direction; a portion for modifying an amount of skew of the oblique line; and a portion for determining that an amount of skew in the document is an amount of skew of the oblique line having the error equal to a threshold or smaller.

In an image forming apparatus outputting a document, a copy condition of the output document and the order of priority among the set copy condition, a condition on the part of the machine, and a condition input by the user to be actually decided on as a copy condition are set. The information is then embedded and output. In an image forming apparatus making a copy, the output printed material is scanned and the embedded copy condition and order of priority are extracted and restored. Then, for each item of the copy conditions, a condition having a higher priority among the aforementioned conditions is decided on as a copy condition of the printed material, so that the printed material is copied under the decided condition.

It is intended to provide an image forming apparatus and image forming method capable of obtaining a comparatively high-quality image output even under a correction mode that gives preference to processing time required for correction, and capable of suppressing interruption of image formation to the utmost under operational condition such that internal temperature changes continuously. There are saved last five detections of positional shift quantity under first correction mode that gives preference to correction accuracy for each temperature band. Under second correction mode that gives preference to processing time required for correction, there is calculated a difference of a value actually obtained through measurement and an average value of data history belonging to a target temperature band (#7 through #9). Furthermore, the difference is multiplied by a reliability coefficient of main scanning direction and that of sub scanning direction, respectively, to determine correction quantity (#10, #11). Thereby, excessive change of correction quantity is prevented.
