Provided is an illumination device that is capable of improving the utilization efficiency of light, while being lighter and thinner. This illumination device () is provided with: a light source () that emits ultraviolet light; a light guide plate () that guides the light from the light source; an optical member () placed between the light source and the light guide plate and that allows ultraviolet light emitted from the light source to pass through and that reflects visible light; and a fluorescent member () that is arranged between an ultraviolet light incident surface () of the optical member and the light guide plate and that converts the ultraviolet light into visible light.

A shock absorber includes a projection that projects toward an optical disk and projects out of a surface of an objective lens facing the optical disk to prevent collision of the objective lens and the optical disk. The shock absorber has a surface resistivity of not more than 10&#x3a9; at least for the projection. In this way, the shock absorber (projection) will not be electrified when the optical disk and the shock absorber (projection) collide with each other, and accordingly the shock absorber (projection, in particular) does not attract dust or particles. As a result, the dust or particles do not damage the optical disk even when the optical disk and the shock absorber (projection) collide again.

In an optical transmission and reception module, a partitioning member separating a light emitting device and a light receiving device from each other includes a partitioning plate having a concave surface, an engaging portion to which the partitioning plate is fixed, a holding portion holding the engaging portion movably, and a leaf spring for pressing the engaging portion against an optical plug. An end surface of an optical fiber is convex and projects from a front end of the optical plug. When the end surface of the optical plug is in contact with an engaging surface of the engaging portion, a gap is generated between the end surface of the optical fiber and a surface opposed thereto.

In an optical transmit-receive module, an optical fiber plug connected with an optical fiber for optical transmission is removably inserted in a housing. Within the housing, there are provided a branching type light guide, and an optical semiconductor device giving an optical signal to the branching type light guide and receiving an optical signal from the branching type light guide. When the optical fiber plug is inserted in the housing, it is optically connected with the branching type light guide through a light-permeable member having a refractive index approximately equal to refractive indices of the optical fiber and the branching type light guide.
