A method for controlling operation of a generator for a wind turbine is disclosed. At least one amplitude of a harmonic in the gearbox vibrations is determined. A torque modulating signal for the generator is generated. A phase angle and the amplitude are adjusted during operation of the generator, until a minimum in amplitude of a resultant vibration is reached, thereby obtaining an adjusted torque modulating signal. The adjusted torque modulating signal is injected into the generator, resulting in the resultant vibration of vibrations of the gearbox and vibrations of the generator, corresponding to the harmonic in the gearbox vibrations, being reduced.

Method for reducing noise from wind turbine gearbox vibrations

A method for reducing gear induced noise from a wind turbine is disclosed. A first vibration map and a second vibration map are generated, specifying, for each of a plurality of operating points of the generator, a virtual phase of vibrations originating from gear tooth meshing of the gearbox, relative to a first and second reference phase, at the respective operating points. An overlap between operating points of the first vibration map and operating points of the second vibration map is identified and virtual phases within the overlap are compared, thus deriving a phase offset between the first vibration map and the second vibration map. The virtual phase of vibrations of each of the operating points of the second vibration map are adjusted according to the phase offset, so as to align the first vibration map and the second vibration map, and the first vibration map and the second vibration map are combined into a resultant vibration map.

Method for reducing gear induced noise from a wind turbine

A method for tracking a gear tooth meshing angle of a gearbox of a wind turbine is disclosed. An initial reference virtual gear tooth meshing angle of the gearbox is selected, and an angular position of a high speed shaft and/or a low speed shaft of the gearbox is monitored. A virtual gear tooth meshing angle relative to the reference virtual gear tooth meshing angle is estimated, based on the monitored angular position of the high speed shaft and/or the low speed shaft and on information regarding topology of the gearbox. A number of full rotations of the high speed shaft and/or the low speed shaft which corresponds to an integer number of full periods of gear meshing of the gearbox is calculated, and the reference virtual gear tooth meshing angle is reset each time the high speed shaft and/or the low speed shaft has performed the calculated number of full rotations. The estimated virtual gear tooth meshing angle is applied to a periodic noise signal of the wind turbine.

Method for tracking a gear tooth meshing angle of a gearbox of a wind turbine

A system for a wind turbine that includes a protection system interfaced to a circuit breaker system and a sensing system. The protection system is configured to determine an operational mode of the wind turbine by monitoring at least two parameters determine a parameter set comprising a plurality of operational parameters based on a determined operational mode, and an associated set of expected values corresponding to the parameter set, determine actual values corresponding to the determined parameter set, identify a fault condition in the event that the determined set of actual values of the operational parameters do not correspond to the determined set of expected values of the operational parameters, and implement a protection action based on the identified fault condition.

A method for determining angular position of a generator shaft of a wind turbine is presented. The method includes receiving a position signal, from an encoder position sensor of the wind turbine, indicative of an angular position of the generator shaft. The method includes determining a compensation signal to compensate for a disturbance signal in the received position signal indicative of an imperfection associated with the encoder position sensor. The method includes modifying the position signal by applying the determined compensation signal to the received position signal to determine angular position.

The invention relates to a method for operating a wind turbine which comprises a power generator, a generator side converter, a grid side converter, a DC link electrically connected to an output of the generator side converter and an input of the grid side converter. The method comprises monitoring a wind turbine signal for detection of an operational condition which requires an increase of an output voltage of the grid side converter, upon detection of the operational condition, initiate an over-modulation mode wherein the grid side converter is operated with a modulation index in an over-modulation range, and upon the detection of the operational condition, initiate a DC-voltage adjustment mode wherein the a DC-voltage of the DC link is increased from a first voltage level towards a second voltage level.

The line side converter comprises a controller comprising a feedback control module configured to output a feedback control signal for modifying a drive signal received by a modulator. This invention relates to a method of controlling at least one wind turbine of a plurality of wind turbines connected to an electrical grid at a predefined point in the electrical grid. The wind turbine comprises a DC link connecting a generator side converter to a line side converter, where the line side converter is controlled according to a modulation index requested by a power converter controller. The method comprises determining a harmonic frequency signal indicative of a harmonic frequency value at the predefined point in the electrical grid; determining a deviation between the harmonic frequency signal and a permissible harmonic frequency value; determining a permissible modulation index based on the deviation; comparing the permissible modulation index to the modulation index requested by the power converter controller; and, altering a DC link voltage set-point based on the comparison between the permissible modulation index and the requested modulation index.

Controlling a power converters during over voltage condition. A wind turbine signal is monitored for detection of an over voltage of the grid and upon detection of the over voltage, an over-modulation mode is initiated wherein the grid side converter is operated with a modulation index being increased in an over-modulation range at least during a sub-period of the over-modulation mode, and upon the detection of the operational condition, a DC-voltage adjustment mode is initiated wherein the DC voltage of the DC link is decreased from a second voltage level towards a first voltage level at least during a sub-period of the DC-voltage adjustment mode.
