Some embodiments concern a method of transmitting electrical signals. The method can include: using a global positioning satellite receiver to determine a first location of a first electrical device; using a first transmitter to transmit the first location to a first server; using a receiver to receive information identifying at least one first unused frequency at the first location from the first server; selecting a first transmission frequency from the at least one first unused frequency; and communicating the first transmission frequency to a user. In some embodiments, a system can be configured to communicate to and from a media device. The media device can include a first controller. The system can include: (a) a software module configured to run on the first controller; (b) a physical device module configured to run on the first controller; (c) a virtual host module configured to run on the first controller; and (e) a docking station having: (1) a second controller; (2) an electrical connector configured to couple to the media device; (3) a physical host module configured to run on the second controller; (4) a virtual device module configured to run on the second controller; and (5) one or more accessory devices configured to communicate with the media device using the virtual device module. In some examples, the physical host module and the physical device module are configured to establish a physical communications pipe between the media device and the docking station. The virtual host module and the virtual device module can be configured to establish a virtual communications pipe between the media device and the docking station using the physical communications pipe. A wireless cellular network includes an access point selector that selects an access point for forwarding data from a wireless device. When data is received with an unacceptable quality level, the access point selector queries other access points for the same data. The queried access points send data quality information to the access point selector. The access point selector uses the data quality information for selecting another one of the access points to forward data from the wireless device.

Smart frame selection for improved backhaul bandwidth efficiency

A selection and distribution unit (SDU) in a wireless radio access network is configured to receive signal quality information about a plurality of data streams, and based on the signal quality information, to select one of the plurality of data streams to be forwarded independently of the SDU. The data streams are associated with a call session from a mobile device and received by base transceiver stations, which provide the signal quality information about the received data streams to the SDU. Only one data stream is selected by the SDU for forwarding to a network device such as a PSTN gateway. The SDU provides a multicast address to the network device for transmitting data streams to the mobile device, and commands a base transceiver station to listen at that multicast address to receive the data stream. The SDU also establishes a multicast address for a plurality of base transceiver stations to receive commands from the SDU.

Optimization of bearer traffic in radio networks

A priority scheme is based on an amount of preallocated bandwidth unused by channel unit ports. A first water level in a first bucket is associated with an amount of allotted bandwidth unused by the channel unit and a second water level in a second bucket is associated with an amount of unused allotted bandwidth exceeding an overflow level of the first bucket. A priority value is derived from the first water level when the first water level is above zero. The priority value is derived from the second water level when the first water level is below or equal to zero. In another aspect of the invention, the high priority value is determined by tracking a percentage utilization of allocated bandwidth for a predetermined number of time increments comprising a measurement time period.
