A method, system, and device are provided for bootstrapping a Session Initiation Protocol Proxy for a mobile device when the Home Agent is bootstrapped for the device. When an authentication server obtains a Home Agent address for the mobile device, it also obtains a Session Initiation Protocol Proxy address, associated with the Home Agent, for the mobile device. The Session Initiation Protocol Proxy address is sent to the mobile device along with the Home Agent address.

A method for assigning a static mobile internet protocol address to a mobile node by an access node is provided. The method includes receiving a mobile registration request message, sending an access request message to an authorization node in response to the registration request, and receiving an access accept message containing a static mobile IP address from the authorization node. The method continues by sending an access registration request message containing the static mobile IP address to a mobile network internet node, which then assigns the static mobile IP address to the mobile node. A mobile access registration request message associated with the mobile registration request message is sent to the mobile network internet node at a time after the access registration request message has been sent. A mobile access registration reply message is received from the mobile network internet node, and a mobile reply registration message containing the static mobile IP address is sent to the mobile node.

What is disclosed is a method of operating a communication system which includes a plurality of packet processing systems that each comprises one of a plurality of packet payload inspection systems. The method includes receiving a registration request from a wireless communication device, and in response, selecting one of the packet processing systems for the wireless communication device, obtaining a user profile for the wireless communication device, and obtaining a location for the wireless communication device. The method also includes transferring data indicating the wireless communication device, the user profile for the wireless communication device, and the location for the wireless communication device for delivery to the one of the packet payload inspection systems included in the selected one of the packet processing systems. The method also includes receiving the data in the one of the packet payload inspection systems, and in response, inspecting packet payloads associated with the wireless communication device based on the data.

Systems, products, and methods are disclosed for enabling an action to take place based on data-usage characteristics associated with a mobile device. This can include receiving a request from the mobile device to receive an IP address (which request is communicated through a base transceiver station), adding to the registration request an identifier that identifies the BTS, and communicating the modified registration request to an IP-address-allocation device that reserves the IP address for the mobile device.
